We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: English Teacher

Location: Owerri, Imo

Job Overview

  • We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and skilled English Teacher to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language and literature lessons to secondary school students. The role involves ensuring students develop the skills to achieve strong academic performance, while also fostering a love for language and literature.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:

  • Teach English language and literature to students in accordance with the school’s curriculum, ensuring alignment with both the British and Nigerian educational standards.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including group work, discussions, and technology, to engage students and make learning meaningful.
  • Assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and implementing interventions when necessary to ensure academic growth.
  • Foster a love for literature and language in students, encouraging critical thinking and analytical skills.

Classroom Management:

  • Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and discipline.
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage student behavior and encourage a growth mindset.
  • Organize classroom resources and materials to ensure that students have access to the necessary tools for learning.

Student Support:

  • Provide individual support to students, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Offer guidance and mentorship to students, helping them achieve their academic goals and improve their language skills.
  • Encourage active participation, discussion, and critical thinking during lessons.

Assessment and Reporting:

  • Develop, administer, and mark assessments to evaluate students’ understanding of the subject matter.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and progress.
  • Provide regular reports and feedback to students, parents, and school leadership, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in school-wide meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay updated on the latest trends in education.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices, plan curriculum activities, and improve the overall quality of education at the school.
  • Stay informed about changes to the British and Nigerian educational systems, ensuring that teaching practices are aligned with current standards.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in secondary education, preferably in an international or bilingual school.
  • A strong understanding of both the British and Nigerian educational systems, including the English language curriculum.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of English language and literature, with the ability to teach all levels from beginner to advanced.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage students effectively.
  • Familiarity with modern teaching technologies and educational tools.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
