Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and skilled English Teacher to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language and literature lessons to secondary school students. The role involves ensuring students develop the skills to achieve strong academic performance, while also fostering a love for language and literature.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
Teach English language and literature to students in accordance with the school’s curriculum, ensuring alignment with both the British and Nigerian educational standards.
Plan and deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
Use a variety of teaching methods, including group work, discussions, and technology, to engage students and make learning meaningful.
Assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and implementing interventions when necessary to ensure academic growth.
Foster a love for literature and language in students, encouraging critical thinking and analytical skills.
Classroom Management:
Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and discipline.
Develop and implement strategies to manage student behavior and encourage a growth mindset.
Organize classroom resources and materials to ensure that students have access to the necessary tools for learning.
Student Support:
Provide individual support to students, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement.
Offer guidance and mentorship to students, helping them achieve their academic goals and improve their language skills.
Encourage active participation, discussion, and critical thinking during lessons.
Assessment and Reporting:
Develop, administer, and mark assessments to evaluate students’ understanding of the subject matter.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and progress.
Provide regular reports and feedback to students, parents, and school leadership, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
Professional Development:
Participate in school-wide meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay updated on the latest trends in education.
Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices, plan curriculum activities, and improve the overall quality of education at the school.
Stay informed about changes to the British and Nigerian educational systems, ensuring that teaching practices are aligned with current standards.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education, or a related field.
A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
At least 2 years of teaching experience in secondary education, preferably in an international or bilingual school.
A strong understanding of both the British and Nigerian educational systems, including the English language curriculum.
Skills and Experience:
Strong knowledge of English language and literature, with the ability to teach all levels from beginner to advanced.
Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage students effectively.
Familiarity with modern teaching technologies and educational tools.
Ability to provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
