Outline and direct the performance of all laboratory procedures necessary for diagnosis and management of patients.
Perform specialized tests within the medical unit’s laboratory.
Manage day to day laboratory activities.
Check and endorse results of laboratory analysis before dispatch
Ensure Total Quality Assurance of all tests/investigations and procedures.
Accurate, appropriate and timely result on the right patient, generating useful laboratory information to enhancing correct diagnosis.
Timely and comprehensive preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments
Maintenance of all scientific instruments in the laboratory
Performing required daily, weekly, monthly and yearly maintenance schedule of equipment/instruments as applicable
Adopting appropriate handling of equipment as stipulated by manufacturers, drawing up and adopting of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Ensuring appropriate operating environment of humidity, temperature and power requirements (electricity, dust-free environment etc. for all equipment
Summary Objective: Ensure equipment in optimal performance state, to have none or minimal down time due to faulty equipment and enhance quality and longevity of equipment.
Optimized management of laboratory resources- fixed and expendables
Tailored purchase of items/reagents and other materials to need
Purchase of laboratory consumables with long dated expiry and shelf life
Maintenance of cold chain and proper reagent handling to avoid deterioration
Summary Objective: Elimination of waste in the use of expendable resources.
Laboratory Resource Forecast and Inventory Using generated statistics
Accurate inventory of all expendable materials in relation to need at every season
Working out efficient modalities of getting regular supplies from major suppliers
Liaising with Supply Chain to smoothen processes between requisition and supply of Laboratory materials
Summary Objective: Continual Availability of laboratory services at all seasons throughout the year.
Execution of Expanded Biennial Comprehensive Medical Examination for different staff member groups (General Staff, Senior Staff, Managers and IRS)
Pre-analytical preparation of staff members on conditions for specific samples and tests
Collection of adequate and appropriate samples for given tests
Analysis for samples for given test applying total quality assurance
Presentation of results in standard forms with appropriate reference intervals (Electronic / hard copies)
Electronic archival of results of biennial medical laboratory examinations for future reference or decision making
Pre-employment medical screening for potential staff member.
Capacity building
Continuous supervision and training of different categories of Laboratory Staff Members-Laboratory Technician, Youth Corpers, I.T. students and other laboratory ad-hoc staff
Supervise sample collection and preparation for analysis
Supervise proper recording and documentation of investigation results.
Working together with the Information Technology (IT) Unit, in the development of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Development and organization of electronic laboratory forms (test description, tests categories / classifications, tests units, reference intervals)
Deployment / supervision of computer-based electronic records for statistics and dispatch of laboratory results
Selection and continuous review of appropriate test methods/platforms/systems for different investigations
Decisions on choice of suitable and cost-effective tests equipment
Guide (Supply Chain) in the procurement of appropriate scientific instruments and consumables.
Coordination of IITA Clinic’s partnership with external laboratories
Liaise with external medical laboratory facilities for conduct laboratory investigations and receipts of results deemed necessary to be conducted at such external facilities
Collaborate with the Medical Unit Administrative Manager for the processing of bills from external medical laboratory facilities.
Advise Physicians on the various aspects of laboratory medicine.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
Qualification:
Master’s Degree in Chemical Pathology / B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science from a reputable higher institution/Associate Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN).
The ideal candidate must have a Practical working experience in an NGO with up to 8 years’ experience in Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Grouping and Transfusion Science and Histopathology.
Professional certification in Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Licensure is required.
