Job Description
We are seeking a sharp and culturally aware Content Strategist to join our team. In this role, you will lead the creation of content formats that bring product recommendations to life on platforms where our audience already spends their time: YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
You will be responsible for shaping how Pulse Picks shows up visually and narratively across video-first platforms.
This means designing engaging formats that feel native to each platform, yet distinctly Pulse Picks—content that informs, entertains, and builds trust in our product recommendations.

You’ll be part of the core team crafting how a new generation discovers what to buy—honestly, clearly, and confidently.
Duties and Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Development:
Design platform-specific content strategies for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Shorts that align with Pulse Picks’ brand voice and product focus
Create and document content formats—such as series templates, recurring video types, and thematic weekly or monthly content—tailored to audience habits and platform behaviour.
Develop content calendars in collaboration with the editorial, video, and social teams to ensure content is consistent, timely, and optimised for engagement
Lead the creative development of content ideas, from concept to scripting and execution, ensuring brand and performance alignment.
Creative Ideation & Execution Support:
Collaborate with content creators, editors, and designers to bring each idea to life visually and narratively.
Write or co-write short scripts, storyboards, and shot lists for key video formats, ensuring clarity and entertainment value.
Ensure content communicates product features, use-cases, or benefits while maintaining authenticity and relatability
Provide creative direction on shoots when needed, including tone, style, and message delivery.
Content Performance & Optimisation:
Monitor engagement metrics for each platform—watch time, completion rate, saves, shares, comments, and click-throughs
Analyse and report on top-performing formats to guide future content planning
Propose and implement A/B testing of hooks, thumbnails, video length, and storytelling styles to improve results
Track competitor content and market trends, using insights to keep Pulse Picks formats fresh and relevant.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with the Head of Content to align content output with broader editorial and brand goals
Coordinate with the social media and community teams to ensure strong content distribution and amplification
Support branded content and partnership campaigns by developing creative treatments and suggesting platform-fit concepts.
Participate in team reviews, brainstorms, and post-mortems to share learnings and improve processes.
Requirements
Experience: 3 - 5 years working in digital media, social storytelling, or branded content. Proven experience crafting content strategies across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Creative & Strategic Thinking: Ability to turn product stories or campaign needs into exciting content series and formats.
Platform Knowledge: Deep understanding of what works on each platform and how audiences consume and engage with content.
Communication: Strong writing, conceptualising, and collaborative skills to work across video, social, and editorial teams.
Tools: Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), content planning tools, and basic analytics platforms (YouTube Studio, Meta Insights, etc.).
Passion: Strong enthusiasm for consumer-focused content and the evolving digital media space in Africa.
