The Operations Coordinator holds full responsibility and accountability for the overall performance of the plant, overseeing the budget, operational KPIs, and regulatory compliance while ensuring effective coordination with regulators, vendors, and third parties.
They provide visible leadership in health, safety, and diversity initiatives, driving compliance with company HSE policies.
The role involves ensuring the plant operates safely and efficiently, managing resources such as personnel, materials, equipment, and logistics, while coordinating internal departments to support smooth and cost-effective operations.
What you'll be doing
Health & Safety:
Drive and ensure full compliance of the plant to Lafarge Health, Safety & Environment standards through the right application and management of HSE policies and advisories in place for employees and other stakeholders.
Conduct Regular VPC across the RMX plants/offices to assess H&S compliance, with documented report as per performance objective requirements.
Champion the execution of Site Improvement Plan actions in consultation with Safety Manager – A&C and the Regional Manager.
Reports all incidents/VPC and near misses
Ensure weekly toolbox meetings and prompt reporting.
Drive plant safety area ownership and overall housekeeping of the plant
Ensure timely closure of all audit actions arising from Group and Country HSE audits.
Responsible for the renewal of statutory permits, legal fees and documentation in liaison with the legal and compliance department with regards to the RMX plant.
Participate in the conduct of RCA of safety related incidences in the Plant.
Operation/Inventory Management:
Maintain site improvement plan and collaborate with Regional Manager to ensure all actions are resolved.
Coordinate the inspection of new customers’ sites (Truck and pump operators to assist, as required) and duly complete the site inspection form/journey management plan. Where exceptional site condition exists, Operations Coordinator is required to visit the site in-person for critical assessment.
Resolve/handle customer queries and issues relating to supply of product in line with QMS
Periodic visits to customer sites to proactively address service delivery
Ensure regular plant walk-around with plant operator/mechanic to assess site and plant conditions.
Inventory Management – Ensure month end inventory of raw materials, spares etc. and also ensure daily update on SAP.
Ensure critical spares required for routine plant maintenance are available, adequately stored and proper records kept.
Maintain adequate stock levels of cement, aggregates, admixture and diesel by liaising with suppliers for timely reorder level. The incumbent is also responsible for critical vetting of incoming spares and materials as well as issuance of GRN
Conduct physical inventory against work orders for maintenance activities and ensure issuance of relevant SES within approved standard timeline.
Liaise with Logistics on truck movement on daily and weekly schedule and ensure confirmation on D-1.
Maintenance Activities:
Ensure organization of weekly maintenance meeting with the appointed team members, to review and sign off previous week’s routine and specific inspections and job cards.
Create notifications, plan maintenance activities for the week ahead, plant work orders and close out any pending work orders.
Track plant/equipment planned and unplanned downtime
People Management and Development:
Ensure periodic performance conversation and appraisal of direct reports
Identify training needs, propose and organize training interventions for subordinates in order to maximize their skills
Provide leadership, direction and guidance to all direct reports / Indirect lines of reports thereby developing potentials leaders.
Other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Regional Manager and Management
Who you'll be working with
List of direct reports:
The incumbent interacts regularly with the Regional Manager, Health & Safety Manager, Technical Manager, Logistics Manager, Field Sales Manager, Maintenance Manager, Project Coordinator/PMR and other key Plant personnel.
He / she also interacts regularly with customers, the external public, sub-contractors including mixer drivers, material transporters, suppliers, government officials/regulators and other external stakeholders.
What we are looking for
Minimum Degree in Engineering or its equivalent (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical)
At least 5 years' experience in ready mix concrete operations i.e plant production and maintenance activities
Good communicator (written & spoken)
Good analyst and fluency with IT tools – SAP, Excel, Word, Power Point etc.
Ability to influence and drive actions with minimum supervision
Great supervisory skills, years of supervisory experience will be added advantage
A post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
