The Community Court of Justice was created pursuant to the provisions of Articles 6 and 15 of the 1993 ECOWAS Revised Treaty as the principal legal organ of the Community. The Court’s main Mission is to “discharge and promote its judicial function of interpreting and applying Community texts as well as to ensure the protection of human rights in an efficient, timely and cost-effective manner with the support of well-trained and motivated staff.” The Court imbibes Independence, Impartiality, Integrity and Accessibility as its core values.

Role Overview
Under the supervision of the Head of Division, Judicial Certified Translations and Interpretation, the incumbent shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of translations of all documents from English and/or French into Portuguese.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate shall:
Revise complex, technical, and sensitive documents translated from French into Portuguese or English into Portuguese
Produce accurate translations that are faithful to the spirit, style, and nuances of the original text.
Respect the terminology and usage of the institution’s established language in order to ensure the required consistency of output among translators working on the same document.
Advise on translation issues and suggest improvements to the translation process.
Utilise modern computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools to perform translation tasks efficiently.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification:
Master’s Degree in translation or equivalent from a recognized university/institution.
Experience:
10 years of experience in translation, at least 4 of which should have been with international organisations;
Demonstrated experience in the use of relevant computer assisted translation software/tools.
Demonstrated professional competence and mastery of subject matter.
Ability to find proper cultural equivalents and take cultural context into account through knowledge of both languages and culture.
Exhibit highest standards of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the style and nuances of the original text/source language(s).
Ability to maintain highest standards of confidentiality.
Knowledge of terminological and reference research techniques with ability to use wide variety of references and information
Proven expertise in the use of relevant computer-assisted translation (CAT) software and tools, machine translation systems, and on-screen editing software.
Proven professional competence and mastery of the field.
Ability to find appropriate cultural equivalents and demonstrate cultural sensitivity through knowledge of both language and culture.
Demonstrate the highest standards of accuracy and precision, consistency, and fidelity to the style and subtleties of the source or original text.
Demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality.
Sound knowledge of terminology and reference material research techniques, as well as the ability to exploit a wide variety of information and reference sources.
