Job Summary
- The Knowledge Management (KM) Expert will be responsible for designing and implementing strategies to capture, document, and share regenerative agriculture knowledge.
- This role involves collaborating closely with multiple stakeholders, including smallholder farmers, SCL’s RA technical experts/technicians / Researchers, policymakers, and agro-allied organisations to build a robust knowledge-sharing ecosystem and cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing, advocacy as well as continuous learning and improvement for sustainable agricultural growth.
- The Expert will also collaborate on communication efforts to promote best practices in soil regeneration, carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and organic farming.
Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Management & Communication Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement a knowledge management strategy focused on regenerative agriculture.
- Design policies and frameworks for documenting soil health practices, carbon farming, biodiversity enhancement, and agroecological innovations.
- Strengthen stakeholder engagement through effective knowledge dissemination and relationship management.
Knowledge Capture, Documentation, and Communication:
- Identify key knowledge areas within SCL’s RA methods and develop mechanisms for documentation and sharing.
- Implement best practices for content management, including document control, versioning, and accessibility of RA farming data.
- Provide strategic support in managing corporate communications, including branding, messaging, and media relations.
Knowledge Sharing, Farmer Engagement, and Advocacy:
- Develop and execute knowledge-sharing initiatives to educate farmers and stakeholders on soil regeneration, composting, cover cropping, and agroforestry.
- Leverage training and engagement sessions/workshops/forums to facilitate peer learning and experience exchange.
- Promote advocacy campaigns to increase awareness and policy support for regenerative agriculture.
Technology and Digital Knowledge Management:
- Develop new or strengthen existing digital knowledge management systems tailored to agricultural data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
- Leverage digital platforms such as mobile applications, online forums, and social media to foster knowledge-sharing among farmers and industry stakeholders.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact and effectiveness of knowledge management initiatives.
- Continuously refine knowledge management processes based on research advancements, farmer feedback, and industry best practices.
Risk Management, Compliance, and Crisis Communication:
- Ensure SCL’s knowledge management processes align with national and international regenerative agriculture standards and environmental policies.
- Develop crisis communication strategies to safeguard the organisation’s reputation in the agricultural sector.
- Safeguard SCL’s proprietary knowledge while promoting open sharing within regulatory frameworks.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Agricultural Communications, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in knowledge management, agricultural communications, organic farming, or sustainable agriculture.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in knowledge management systems, content management tools, and digital communication platforms.
- Experience with data analysis, taxonomy development, and agricultural information management.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication, training, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with farmers, researchers, policymakers, and agro-allied businesses to drive knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Knowledge Management (CKM) or related.
- Experience in agricultural extension services, sustainability programs, or digital transformation initiatives in farming.
- Familiarity with emerging KM trends, and enterprise search technologies for the agricultural sector.
Work Environment:
- In-office work based on organizational policies.
- May require occasional travel for training, workshops, or agricultural field visits.
Deliverables for Knowledge Management Expert (Regenerative Agriculture):
Foundation and Strategy Development:
- Develop a Knowledge Management Plan for SCL
- Review and develop a comprehensive KM and communication strategy.
- Identify key stakeholders, including smallholder farmers, policymakers, and researchers.
- Restructure existing knowledge-management platform.
Content Creation & Farmer Engagement:
- Develop a comprehensive Knowledge Management (KM) framework that integrates past and present research, key learnings, and knowledge areas that are specific to SCL.
- Develop knowledge-sharing articles on soil health, biodiversity and productivity based on RA.
- Collect baseline data from participating smallholder farmers on knowledge gaps.
- Publish digital newsletter(s) on regenerative agriculture.
Documentation:
- Liaise with the communication team to finalize video tutorials on SCL’s regenerative farming practices.
- Document at least best-case farming studies from project participants.
- Evaluate stakeholder engagement metrics.
Expanding Knowledge Management Systems:
- Launch an online knowledge repository for regenerative agriculture.
- Facilitate a radio or podcast session on SCL Regenerative Agriculture methods.
- Document progress reports from early adoption of regenerative practices by participating smallholder farmers.
- Facilitate SCL’s participation in a roundtable discussion with policymakers on climate-smart farming and policies.
Strengthening Digital Engagement:
- Support the communication team in publishing at least 1 social media post per week on regenerative farming.
- Explore and initiate a monthly farmer Q&A session on WhatsApp/Facebook/Call Center etc.
- Develop a toolkit on regenerative farming techniques.
Monitoring & Evaluation of Knowledge Sharing:
- Assess farmer RA adoption rate (based on feedback).
- Publish research briefs on the impact of SCL’s Regenerative farming techniques.
- Conduct a peer learning session between farmers & researchers.
- Strengthen existing database of documented regenerative farming successes.
Expanding Advocacy & Visibility:
- Organize a community demonstration farm visit.
- Publish success stories from farmers implementing regenerative methods.
- Establish a mentorship network connecting experienced and new smallholder farmers.
- Update SCL’s knowledge repository with new farming techniques.
Strengthening Institutional Partnerships:
- Engage new partners (e.g., NGOs, research institutes) for collaboration.
- Host an online seminar on sustainable farming policy & practice.
- Update knowledge-sharing materials based on new findings as appropriate.
Farmer-Led Knowledge Sharing & Digital Expansion:
- Launch a video series featuring successful regenerative farmers.
- Conduct a case study on soil fertility improvements in local farms.
- Assess engagement levels on digital platforms & adjust strategies.
Policy Influence & Advanced Training:
- Draft policy recommendations based on farming outcomes.
- Organize an advanced training session on carbon farming techniques.
- Update digital knowledge tools with emerging best practices.
Finalizing Knowledge Products & Publicity:
- Publish a comprehensive regenerative agriculture guidebook.
- Conduct a public awareness campaign on sustainable farming.
- Develop an interactive farmer learning module.
- Hold a stakeholder feedback session for final refinements.
Evaluation & Future Planning:
- Conduct a year-end evaluation of knowledge-sharing activities.
- Publish a final report on impact & recommendations.
- Develop a SCL KM work plan for 2026.
