Role Overview
The EdTech Researcher is responsible for conducting comprehensive research on education technology products of companies in our portfolio Sub-Saharan EdTech Fund (SEF) Venture Studio), evaluating their impact on learning outcomes, and providing insights to inform the development and effective adoption of educational technology solutions.
The role involves collaborating with edtech startups in our portfolio as well as stakeholders such as students, educators, parents, schools, government ministries/agencies of education etc to enhance the integration of technology in education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research and Analysis:
Conduct research on emerging educational technologies, trends, and innovations.
Analyze the effectiveness of edtech products in our portfolio and their use cases
Evaluate and compare different technologies to determine their impact on learning outcomes.
Review existing research, studies, and literature related to educational technology.
Synthesize findings and identify gaps in current research that need to be addressed.
Data Collection and Evaluation:
Design and implement research studies, surveys, and experiments to gather data on design and adoption of edtech solutions in our portfolio.
Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to assess the performance and impact on learning outcomes of these edtech solutions.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare detailed research reports, presentations, and summaries of findings for stakeholders.
Document methodologies, results, and recommendations clearly and concisely.
Conduct workshops and presentations on research findings and best practices.
Collaboration:
Work closely with educators, instructional designers, and technology developers to understand their needs and challenges.
Collaborate with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners on joint research projects.
Innovation:
Identify opportunities for new technologies and innovations in education.
Provide recommendations for the development and implementation of new tools and solutions
Qualifications
Educational Background:
A Degree in Education, Educational Technology, Research, or a related field.
Advanced degrees or certifications in educational research or technology is preferred.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong ability to design and conduct research studies, including qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Strong analytical thinking to assess data and draw meaningful conclusions.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach research questions from multiple perspectives.
Familiarity with educational technology tools, platforms, and software.
Proficiency in using research and data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
Communication Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing research reports, presentations, and summaries.
Ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Collaboration:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with educators, developers, and other stakeholders.
Experience in collaborative research and project management.
Project Management:
Ability to manage multiple research projects and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational skills to handle data collection, analysis, and reporting.
