The Senior Agronomist will be a key technical expert, responsible for providing advanced agronomic guidance and support to optimize cassava production and soil health across Agbeyewa Farms' operations.
This role requires a deep understanding of crop science, soil management, pest and disease control, and sustainable farming practices, with the ability to translate research into practical field applications.

Job Description
Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic strategies and plans that align with the farm's production goals, focusing on maximizing the yield, quality, and sustainability of cassava crops.
Lead initiatives for soil testing, analysis, and improvement, including nutrient management programs, organic matter enhancement, and erosion control measures.
Develop and oversee fertilization programs based on soil analysis and crop requirements, ensuring efficient nutrient utilization and minimizing environmental impact.
Develop and implement integrated pest and disease management (IPM) strategies, monitor crop health, identify threats, and recommend practical and sustainable control measures.
Evaluate and recommend suitable cassava varieties based on local conditions, yield potential, disease resistance, and market demands. Participate in or oversee on-farm trials for variety testing and adaptation.
Champion and implement sustainable farming techniques, including conservation tillage, crop rotation, intercropping (where applicable), and water-efficient irrigation methods.
Collect, analyze, and interpret agronomic data (yields, soil tests, pest incidence, etc.) to identify trends, diagnose problems, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to farm managers, field officers, and other farm staff on best agronomic practices.
Stay abreast of the latest agronomic research and advancements, evaluating their potential application to Agbeyewa Farms and potentially leading on-farm research trials.
Contribute to the development and implementation of quality assurance protocols for cassava production.
Collaborate with research institutions, suppliers, and other external stakeholders to access new knowledge and technologies.
Ensure all agronomic practices comply with relevant regulations and promote environmentally responsible farming.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related field.
10- 15 years of progressive experience as an Agronomist, with a strong focus on field-based crop production, preferably including experience with cassava or similar root and tuber crops in the Nigerian context.
In-depth knowledge of soil fertility management, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and sustainable farming practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency in data analysis software and basic computer applications.
Familiarity with the agricultural landscape and regulatory environment in Nigeria.
A strong commitment to sustainable agriculture and improving crop yields.
