CBM is an International Christian Development Organization, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world. CBM provides grants sourced from private and institutional donors to local partners, who subsequently implement the grants on the basis of contracts signed with CBM detailing implementation, accounting, and reporting standards. In this set-up, CBM Country Offices (CO) perform control and monitoring procedures aimed at partner projects; control reports from implementing partners to CBM, including comparison with original source documents, project contract and cost plans; and ensure compliance with organizational and statutory requirements.

Job Title: Global Accessibility Advisor

About The Role
The Global Accessibility Advisor will serve as a key expert, providing critical technical guidance on accessibility matters on a global scale.
This role will support field staff by offering in-depth expertise to enhance their operational effectiveness in creating accessible solutions.
The primary objective involves directing the integration of accessibility standards and best practices into both planning and operational activities, encompassing crucial aspects such as accreditation and staffing.
The Global Accessibility Advisor will also be responsible for developing essential support materials, comprehensive guides, and relevant publications to equip in-country teams with the resources needed to address specific accessibility challenges in the field.
This position is only filled locally in one of CBM permanent established entities. (ex: Berlin or Bensheim (Germany), UK (Cambridge or remote), Nairobi (Kenya), Abuja (Nigeria), Lomé (Togo), Yaoundé (Cameroon), Lusaka (Zambia), Addis Abeba (Ethiopia), Guatemala City, Kampala (Uganda), Niamey (Niger), etc.).

Responsibilities
Provide global technical guidance on accessibility (built environment, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), accessible communication etc.) across CBM’s programme work, ensuring alignment with best practices and emerging trends.
Conceptualise and regularly update CBM’s programmatic engagement in accessibility by developing and rolling out technical guidance and tools (e.g., Accessibility Audit Guide, AI agent on accessibility).
Promote accessibility mainstreaming through awareness raising, capacity development (specifically
Training of Trainers for partners/OPDs), and programmatic backstopping.
Provide targeted accessibility support to strategic programmes and contribute to identifying and assessing collaboration partners regarding accessibility.
Engage in technical discussions with institutional donors and their agencies to influence accessibility-related policies and funding decisions.
Support advocacy planning and messaging on accessibility, ensuring alignment with the CRPD.
Collaborate with other technical advisors and the Construction Resource Person to ensure CBM-funded structures meet accessibility requirements.
Identify emerging areas relevant to CBM’s accessibility programming, such as digital assistive technology, digitisation in inclusive education, and accessible infrastructure in recovery efforts.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in inclusive design, social sciences, international development, architecture, ICT, or a related field, with expertise in applied accessibility.
5–10 years of experience in international NGOs, multilateral organizations, or government agencies, with a strong track record in accessibility.
Proven experience in results-based management and project cycle management, including assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of international development programmes.
Ability to engage in dialogue with policy stakeholders such as governments, academia, technical bodies, COs and representation of persons with disabilities on legal and technical frameworks related to accessibility.
Experience in rights-based programming, ensuring meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and decision-making.
Candidates with lived experience of disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills and teamwork.
Fluency in English. Other languages will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in MS Office.
