Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate Graduate Intern (Soil-Based Horticulture) to join our team and gain practical experience in soil management, crop production, and sustainable horticultural practices.
This internship is designed for recent graduates eager to develop expertise in soil-based horticulture, regenerative agriculture, and farm-based extension services. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals at our SCL Farm-Kwali, Abuja, engaging in hands-on training and research to improve soil health and crop productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in soil preparation, fertility management, and organic matter enhancement for optimal crop growth.
Support the cultivation of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and ornamental plants using sustainable soil-based techniques.
Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases, and recommend appropriate organic or integrated control measures.
Participate in research and implementation of regenerative agriculture techniques to improve soil biodiversity and water retention.
Work closely with farm managers to implement best horticultural practices and improve yield quality.
Engage in data collection, analysis, and record-keeping for farm productivity evaluation.
Assist in training sessions at the SCL Farm-Kwali, Abuja, educating farmers and extension agents on soil-based horticulture.
Participate in greenhouse and nursery management activities, including transplanting, pruning, and soil amendment application.
Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and biosecurity regulations in farm operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Recent graduate with a Degree in Horticulture, Soil Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Science, or related fields.
Strong interest in soil health, sustainable crop production, and horticulture.
Willingness to work in a practical farm environment and learn through hands-on experience.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Willingness to reside on the farm premises as required for training and work experience.
