We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: Lagos
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Ensuring compliance with all financial regulations and statutory requirements.
Coordination and management of annual audits and liaising with external auditors.
Accounting Operations:
Oversight of daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
Implementation and maintenance of robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure integrity of financial data.
Supporting cash flow management, forecasting, and budgeting processes to ensure adequate liquidity and financial stability.
Strategic Financial Management:
Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Development and monitoring of key financial metrics to assess organizational performance.
Advise on investment activities and contribute strategic insights for profit optimization. Tax Strategy, Compliance, and Risk Management
Ensure timely and accurate preparation, filing and payment of tax obligations, including CIT, VAT, WHT, and other statutory taxes, in compliance with applicable regulations.
Development and implementation of tax-efficient strategies to minimize liabilities while ensuring full statutory compliance. Identification, assessment, and mitigation of tax-related risks, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements to avoid penalties and disputes.
Management of relationships with tax authorities and tax consultants, in addition to responding to inquiries, audits, and regulatory changes effectively.
Process Improvement and Systems Optimization:
Drive continuous assessment and improvement of financial reporting processes, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
Ensure effective implementation and utilization of accounting software and tools.
Ongoing collaboration with the Business Transformation team to implement automation tools to streamline processes and reduce manual workload.
Ensuring the financial reporting process is scalable and capable of handling business growth, changes in accounting standards, or new regulatory requirements.
Identification and implementation of best practices in financial reporting to ensure consistency and quality across the Group.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to enhance their skills and performance.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the Finance Department.
Experience and Qualification
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
Certifications:
Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting or financial management role.
Experience in the healthcare, insurance, or technology sectors is an added advantage.
The ideal candidate would have experience as the Financial Controller, or equivalent, of a medium-sized organization, or as the back-up to the Financial Controller of a large corporate.
Experience with any of the Big 4 is also an added advantage. Skills: •Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial regulations.
