We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Head, Financial Reporting
Location: Lagos
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Oversee the preparation and timely delivery of accurate and comprehensive financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual) in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), GAAP, or other relevant accounting standards.
Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements, tax regulations, and industry specific regulatory bodies.
Manage the consolidation of financial data from multiple subsidiaries and entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy in reporting.
Liaise with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and ensure the accuracy of financial statements and reporting processes.
Lead the preparation and filing of all regulatory reports, including tax returns, financial disclosures, and other statutory filings as required.
Financial Analysis and Insights:
Analyze financial results to provide meaningful insights, trends, and variance analyses to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
Work closely with the CFO and senior leadership team to prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and long-term financial planning models.
Provide recommendations for optimizing financial performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and mitigating financial risks.
Ensure that financial data is interpreted and presented in a clear, actionable manner, helping stakeholders understand the financial health of the business.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor a team of financial reporting professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous development.
Set clear goals, KPIs, and performance expectations for the team, ensuring that objectives are aligned with the overall goals of the finance department and business.
Provide coaching, training, and career development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and competencies.
Conduct regular performance reviews and support team members in their career progression.
Process Improvement and Systems Optimization:
Continuously assess and improve financial reporting processes, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
Collaborate with the IT and Finance Transformation teams to implement automation tools and financial reporting software to streamline processes and reduce manual workloads.
Ensure the financial reporting process is scalable and capable of handling business growth, changes in accounting standards, or new regulatory requirements.
Identify and implement best practices in financial reporting to ensure consistency and quality across the organization.
Strategic Financial Planning and Advisory:
Work closely with business leaders to provide financial insights and support for strategic initiatives, such as mergers & acquisitions, investments, and capital projects.
Advise on financial implications of business decisions and provide input into business strategy based on financial data.
Support the CFO in developing financial plans, setting business targets, and managing financial risks.
Risk Management and Internal Controls:
Ensure that robust internal controls are in place to prevent errors, fraud, and non compliance with financial regulations. Qualifications
Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
Provide guidance and support to the wider finance team in the interpretation and application of financial policies, procedures, and controls.
Stakeholder Management:
Serve as the key point of contact for all financial reporting-related queries from both internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and senior management.
Present and explain financial reports and performance analysis to the executive leadership team and board of directors.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective communication and alignment on financial reporting issues.
Experience and Qualification
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is required.
A minimum of 10–12 years of experience in financial reporting, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior management role.
Strong experience with financial statement preparation, IFRS/GAAP, and statutory reporting requirements.
In-depth knowledge of financial systems, accounting software, and reporting tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion).
Prior experience in managing a team of financial professionals in a complex, multi-entity organization is highly desirable.
Extensive knowledge of financial reporting standards, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
Proven leadership skills, with experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring the integrity of financial data.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non financial stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead initiatives and drive improvements in financial reporting processes.
