We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Climate Action Advisor
Location: Abuja (FCT) (with potential for local travel)

Job Summary
The Climate Action Advisor will play a crucial role in aligning policy implementation in the private sector to achieve Nigeria’s climate goals in an equitable and inclusive manner.
S/he will provide major technical support to the climate project team in executing the project’s goals and objectives.
The project aims to provide technical assistance to support key opportunities for strengthening governance, enhancing institutional capacity, and aligning policy implementation in the private sector to achieve Nigeria’s climate goals in an equitable and inclusive manner.
This role provides the chance to interact with various stakeholders, advocate for impactful policies, and contribute to innovative solutions that support both health and environmental sustainability.
Responsibilities
Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on climate-related health issues, analyze data, and prepare reports that inform advocacy strategies.
Identify and disseminate high-quality research, analytical, and advisory activities on the project and for HSDF’s knowledge base.
Coordinate and provideexpert advisory in climate risk and vulnerability assessments, mitigation and adaptation planning, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, and resilient infrastructure.

Plan and manage the project to completion, including organizing workflow, creating, and reporting work plans and status reports conducting quality reviews on all deliverables and reports, etc.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, NGOs, community organizations, private sectors, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for climate policy initiatives.
Communication and Reporting: Develop communication materials, including briefs, presentations,publications, technical reports, op-eds,and social media content.Participate in global/regionalclimate forums on climate change/action as needed.
Advocacy and Policy Development: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop and promote policies that address the intersection of climate change and health.
Conduct and organize capacity building sessions in sustainable environment practices for both internal project team and key stakeholders.
Participates in team and client problem-solving sessions; supports the facilitation of client engagements, workshops, and the development of documents and reports.
Works closely with the communications team to produce high-quality knowledge materials, pictures and narratives on projects and assist in the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns.
Prepares draft proposals and responses on new opportunity areas in climate change/advocacy; contributes new ideas and identifies opportunities for expanded scope of work and new projects.
Manages any technical elements required by the client, i.e. costing exercises, modeling, etc.
Performs other responsibilities as may be directed by supervisor/project lead.
Requirements
The successful candidate is expected to have the following qualifications, technical competencies, and behavioural competencies:
A degree in Environmental Science, Climate Policy, Sustainability, Energy Studies, Geography, or related fields. Master’s level is preferred.
Postgraduate qualifications in Climate Change and Development, Environmental Economics, or Climate Finance etc.
At least 7+ years expert experience in climate risk and vulnerability assessments, mitigation and adaptation planning, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, or resilient infrastructure
Cognate experience implementing climate-related projects (e.g., solarization, energy efficiency, reforestation)
Stakeholder engagement: expert experience working with government ministries, multi-laterals, or donor agencies on climate policy
Strong facilitation, problem solving, and leadership skills. Should be eager to support and mentor junior staff and peers.
Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to relate respectfully with staff at all levels, ages, genders, nationalities, and orientations and across work areas.
Fluency in English (excellent oral and written communication skills) is required, with the ability to prepare documents on complex subjects for diverse audiences, speak and write persuasively, and present ideas clearly and concisely. Fluency in a foreign language is an added advantage.
Ability to produce new evidence and translate evidence into policies
Practical experience engaging with NGOs and civil society, private sector (especially in agriculture, energy, or finance) and implementing climate-related projects (e.g., solarization, energy efficiency, reforestation)
Communication and capacity building: experience in climate communication or public awareness campaigns, publications, policy briefs, or op-eds, participation in global/regional climate forums and building capacity of stakeholders in sustainable environment practices
Proven cultural, social, and political sensitivity of working in Nigeria or other low and middle-income countries at different levels of government.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team and to handle multiple priorities is required.
