Job Title: Agricultural Program Officer
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Job Summary
The Agricultural Program Officer will be responsible for coordinating extension officers and working with smallholder farmers to improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, experience working with smallholder farmers, and excellent communication and coordination skills.
Responsibilities
Coordinate Extension Officers: Supervise and coordinate the work of extension officers to ensure effective delivery of agricultural services to smallholder farmers.
Work with Smallholder Farmers: Build relationships with smallholder farmers, understand their needs, and provide technical assistance and support to improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
Agricultural Training and Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs for smallholder farmers and extension officers on good agricultural practices, climate-smart agriculture, and other relevant topics.
Farm Demonstrations and Trials: Establish and manage farm demonstrations and trials to showcase best practices and test new technologies and approaches.
Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data on agricultural productivity, farmer incomes, and other relevant indicators to inform program decision-making.
Partnership Development: Develop and maintain partnerships with local government, NGOs, and private sector companies to leverage resources and expertise.
Program Planning and Budgeting: Contribute to program planning and budgeting, including developing work plans and budgets.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to assess program impact and identify areas for improvement.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Number of smallholder farmers reached: Increase the number of smallholder farmers reached through extension services and training programs.
Agricultural productivity: Improve agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers through training, demonstrations, and trials.
Farmer incomes: Increase farmer incomes through improved agricultural productivity and market access.
Partnerships developed: Develop and maintain partnerships with local government, NGOs, and private sector companies.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or related field: A degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience: Experience working with smallholder farmers, extension services, and agricultural development programs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with smallholder farmers, extension officers, and other stakeholders.
Agricultural technical skills: Strong technical skills in agriculture, including knowledge of good agricultural practices, climate-smart agriculture, and other relevant topics.
Data analysis and reporting skills: Ability to collect, analyze, and report data on agricultural productivity, farmer incomes, and other relevant indicators.
Program planning and budgeting skills: Ability to contribute to program planning and budgeting, including developing work plans and budgets.
Monitoring and evaluation skills: Ability to participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to assess program impact and identify areas for improvement.
English: Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
