Role Overview
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, producing detailed financial reports, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting budgeting and cash flow management.
The role demands a high level of precision and the use of modern accounting tools to deliver actionable insights that inform business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Update and reconcile general ledgers, journals, and sub-ledgers on a regular basis.
Implement systematic checks to ensure all financial entries are accurate and complete.
Maintain robust documentation for all financial transactions, making it easy to audit or reference as needed.
Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that comply with statutory and internal standards.
Compare actual figures against budgets and forecasts to identify trends, anomalies, or opportunities for cost optimization.
Create custom reports tailored for different managerial levels, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs).
Ensure timely and accurate filing of taxes (VAT, PAYE, etc.) in accordance with Nigerian laws.
Serve as the point of contact for tax audits, clarifications, and updates from tax authorities.
Stay current on tax law changes and adjust procedures to maintain compliance.
Manage employee payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy in wages, deductions, and benefits.
Regularly reconcile bank statements with internal records to pinpoint and resolve discrepancies.
Track daily cash inflows and outflows, ensuring optimal liquidity.
Prepare for and support both internal and external audits through comprehensive record-keeping and clear process documentation.
Identify potential financial risks and recommend control improvements.
Continuously evaluate and refine internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Collaborate in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, incorporating business trends and market conditions.
Provide insightful analyses that support strategic decision-making and operational improvements.
Work closely with other departments to align financial data with overall business objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
ACCA certification is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software.
Experience with general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation.
Ability to manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Knowledge of tax laws, financial regulations, and audit procedures.
Experience in filing tax returns, preparing audit reports, and ensuring statutory compliance.
Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in financial data management.
Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights for business decisions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Salary
N200,000 - N350,000 per month.
