Job Description
This role reports to the General Manager
The Plant Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations to achieve efficiency, quality, and productivity goals.
This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive overall operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Continually analyse, identify, and set expectations to motivate team members to achieve objectives and goals
Lead, mentor, and motivate the production team to meet performance goals.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Oversee production planning and scheduling to meet customer demand and inventory targets.
Optimize resource utilization and production schedules for efficiency.
Implement and enforce robust quality control measures to ensure products meet or exceed quality standards.
Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address and resolve quality issues.
Ensured that items / product produced by the production team always met quality standards
Monitor products standards at various levels of production and at the point of release so that the cost of rework is reduced / eliminated
Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations.
Implement safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Optimize the use of labor, machinery, and materials to achieve production goals.
Monitor and manage operational costs within budget constraints.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Implement best practices and lean manufacturing principles.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
Implement lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations.
Review and recommend appropriate measures to control and minimise waste level
· Review production practices and equipment: make proposal for improvement to ensure that they are maximally effective
Encourage a culture which strives for growth, continuous improvement and self-development.
Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, logistics, and engineering, to ensure seamless operations.
Communicate operational updates and requirements to relevant stakeholders.
Assist in developing and managing the operations budget.
Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures as necessary.
Identify and integrate technological advancements to improve manufacturing processes.
Explore opportunities for automation and digitalization in plant operations.
Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to understand customer requirements and ensure on-time delivery of quality products.
Lead and oversee key operational projects, ensuring successful implementation and achievement of project goals.
Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with the supply chain to ensure adequate stock of raw materials and finished goods.
Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and excess stock.
Coordinate routine maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
Schedule and oversee equipment repairs and upgrades as needed·
Liaise with other departments, such as procurement, logistics, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless coordination of operations.
Communicate production updates and challenges to upper management.
Requirements
Good first degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or relevant discipline.
Possession of a higher degree(s), such as M.Sc, MBA, PMP is desirable
Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ relevant experience with at least seven (7) years in senior managerial capacity in a similar role, preferably in a multinational FMCG environment
Proven experience in factory operations management or a similar role
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and health and safety standards.
