Job Title: Fabrication Specialist Engineer
Location: Nigeria
Department: Fabrication / Engineering / Construction
Reports To: Fabrication Manager / Project Manager
Job Purpose
The Fabrication Specialist Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the successful execution of fabrication activities for oil and gas projects.
This includes structural steel, piping, pressure vessels, and module fabrication for onshore and offshore facilities.
The role ensures compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and industry regulations while optimizing efficiency, quality, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrications Planning and Execution:
Develop detailed fabrication plans, including material requirements, production schedules, and manpower allocation.
Ensure that fabrication activities align with project timelines and budgets.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and welding procedures to ensure
feasibility and compliance with project requirements.
Supervise the fabrication of components such as offshore platforms, subsea structures, pipelines, skids, and modules.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure fabrication meets standards such as API, ASME,
AWS, ISO, and client-specific specifications.
Conduct inspections, including dimensional checks, welding audits, and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) reviews.
Resolve fabrication-related non-conformance issues and propose corrective actions.
Prepare and review documentation, such as inspection and test plans (ITPs), welding maps, and as-built reports.
Technical Support and Problem Solving:
Provide technical guidance and solutions to resolve fabrication challenges, including weld repairs, material substitutions, and design modifications.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to address fabrication-related queries (RFIs).
Ensure compatibility of fabricated components with overall project designs and installation requirements.
Stakeholder Coordination:
Liaise with clients, contractors, and third-party inspectors to ensure fabrication compliance and approval.
Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of raw materials, such as steel plates, pipes, and welding consumables.
Support project teams during FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and integration testing.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
Ensure adherence the HSE policies and practices during fabrication activities.
Conduct safety risk assessments and toolbox talks for fabrication teams.
Monitor fabrication yard activities lensure safe working conditions and compliance with industry standards.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, assembly, and surface treatment.
Familiarity with materials commonly used in oil and gas (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and super duplex).
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols, and standards.
Experience with NDT techniques such as UT, RT, MT,
PT, and visual inspection.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications:
Certification in welding inspection (e.g., AWS CWI, CSWIP 3.2) is preferred
Project Management Institiue (PMI) Construction Professional is an advantage
Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and HSE standards (ISO 45001).
Experience:
8 years of experience in fabrication within the oil and gas industry, with exposure to offshore and onshore projects.
Hands-on experience in structural, piping, and pressure vessel fabrication.
