Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Welding Supervisor to oversee welding operations for construction projects in swampy, waterlogged, and marine environments.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in welding, quality control, and supervising welding teams while ensuring compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and durability of welded structures in challenging terrains and environmental conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise Welding Operations: Oversee daily welding operations on construction sites, ensuring that welding procedures are followed precisely, and quality standards are maintained for projects in waterlogged, swampy, and marine environments.
Team Management: Lead, train, and mentor the welding team, ensuring that they are well-equipped with the necessary skills, safety protocols, and equipment to perform high-quality welding in challenging conditions.
Quality Control: Ensure all welding work meets the required specifications, standards (including ASME, AWS, ISO), and local regulations. Perform inspections and audits to ensure compliance with welding procedures and the project’s quality requirements.
Safety Compliance: Enforce safety guidelines and ensure that the welding team follows all necessary health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and welding procedures for hazardous or unstable conditions.
Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS): Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for all welding activities, ensuring that all practices are documented and compliant with industry standards.
Weld Inspection and Testing: Oversee the inspection and testing of welded joints, including non-destructive testing (NDT), to verify the integrity and strength of welds in environments that may be affected by water, soil instability, or marine corrosion.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Address any issues related to welding performance or quality, providing immediate corrective action to resolve problems and ensure minimal disruptions to the construction schedule.
Material Selection: Work closely with project engineers to ensure the selection of appropriate welding materials and methods suited for challenging conditions, including the effects of water exposure, corrosion, and extreme weather.
Coordination with Other Teams: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other construction teams to ensure that welding activities are properly integrated into the overall project schedule and do not delay progress.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all welding activities, inspections, tests, and certifications. Report any deviations from standards and provide recommendations for corrective actions as required.
Training and Development: Provide ongoing training for welding personnel on the latest welding techniques, safety protocols, and industry best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and knowledge development.
Monitor Weld Quality: Ensure the quality of welds performed in waterlogged or swampy conditions, paying particular attention to the effects of moisture, soil instability, and environmental conditions on the integrity of the welds.
Environmental Protection: Ensure that all welding operations comply with environmental standards and regulations, particularly with regard to minimizing environmental impacts in sensitive areas such as wetlands and marine environments.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree in Welding Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 8 yearsof experience in welding supervision, with a strong background in construction and welding in waterlogged, swampy, or marine environments.
Welding Certifications: Certified in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS), or equivalent certifications). Knowledge of NDT and welding inspection techniques is essential.
Technical Skills: Proficient in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-cored arc welding. Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints, structural drawings, and WPS.
Quality Control Knowledge: In-depth understanding of welding codes and standards, including ASME, AWS, ISO 9001, and local regulations. Experience with welding inspections, quality control, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate the welding team, while also collaborating with engineers and project managers.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify welding defects or issues early on and take the necessary steps to resolve them promptly, minimizing delays and maintaining the project’s integrity.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and the ability to oversee multiple welding tasks simultaneously while ensuring compliance with standards and deadlines.
Safety Focus: Thorough knowledge of safety procedures, especially in challenging environments. Ability to enforce strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including working inswampy,waterlogged, and marine environments, and the capacity to monitor welding operations under difficult conditions.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in Marine Welding: Experience working with welding applications specific tomarine environments or water-related construction, including anti-corrosion techniques and material selection.
Project Management Experience: Experience in coordinating welding activities within large-scale construction projects, with the ability to integrate welding tasks into broader project timelines.
Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of environmental protection measures and regulations related to welding in sensitive areas like wetlands and waterlogged environments.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and on challenging terrain, including swampy or waterlogged areas.
Willingness to travel to project sites for coordination and monitoring welding activities on-site.
