Research and Product Development Supervisor at Agri Seed Co Nigeria Limited

Agri Seed Co Nigeria Limited is a joint venture between Seed West Africa Limited (a subsidiary of Seed Co International Limited, a public listed company incorporated in Zimbabwe and quoted on the Zimbabwe Stock
Exchange) and Saro AgroSciences Limited a leading Nigeria Agro Input Provider.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Research and Product Development Supervisor

Location: Kaduna
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinate all field operations and labour allocation for planting, thinning, weeding, fertilizer application, harvesting and post-harvest handling of field crops
• Research field selection, land preparation and farmers engagements.
• Design of trial randomization and seed packaging
• Layout, planting, and evaluation of maize, soybean, rice, wheat, sorghum, millet, cowpea and vegetable trials
• Design and management of breeding nurseries to achieve the expected breeding goals.
• Purification and multiplication of breeder seeds
• Design and execution of seed production research trials and other agronomic studies to enhance seed productivity
• Providing support for product development and registration
• Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and technical report writing
• Management of soil and plant nutrient; carry out soil and plant nutrient analyses
• Supervision of field technicians and casual labour
• Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the line manager

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Plant Breeding & Genetics, Agronomy, Plant/Crop Science, Crop Production & Protection, or any other related discipline
• Minimum of a second-class upper degree
• At least 3 years of professional experience in active crop research, preferably in public research institutes or private seed/research organizations
• High proficiency in Excel, Meta R, SAS and other data analytics software.
• Excellent leadership, organization and problem-solving skills
• In-depth knowledge of the Nigerian agricultural industry
• Age Requirement: 25 – 30 years
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

• Good networking
• Applied knowledge of plant breeding and genetics, plant propagation, plant pathology, post-harvest storage, and field trial management
• Vast experience in conducting adaptive research trials with field crops such as cowpea, maize, rice, wheat, sorghum, millet, soybean, and vegetables
• Good data collection, experimental design, data analysis and good technical report writing skills
• Position requires extensive driving across the country and the incumbent must be highly energetic and self-driven with a valid driver’s license
• Good organizational development skills with excellent communication (verbal and written) capabilities
• Good coping skills with heavy workloads extending beyond office hours and during weekends
• Willingness to work for long hours on the field and relocate to rural areas of the job location
• Ability to speak Hausa is an added advantage
