Job Description
We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented Store Keeper to join our team, particularly for managing materials and supplies used in construction projects in swampy, wetland, or waterlogged environments.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing materials while ensuring inventory control, maintenance, and safety standards specific to these challenging conditions.
The Store Keeper will play an essential role in supporting the construction team by ensuring timely availability of materials and maintaining efficient stock management.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the receipt, storage, and issuance of construction materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring that items are stored properly to prevent damage due to wet, swampy, or waterlogged conditions.
Maintain accurate records of inventory, tracking the quantity and location of materials and supplies used on-site, particularly for items exposed to environmental conditions.
Ensure that materials are properly labeled and organized, and regularly update the inventory database.
Inspect incoming shipments for quality and quantity, and report any discrepancies or damages to the supervisor or relevant department.
Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to ensure the timely delivery and availability of required materials to avoid delays in construction schedules.
Monitor the condition of stored materials, checking for potential water damage, rust, or other deterioration due to environmental exposure, and take necessary precautions for preservation.
Maintain an organized and clean storage area, ensuring that safety protocols are followed when handling hazardous materials or heavy items.
Ensure proper handling and security of high-value tools and materials, minimizing the risk of loss, theft, or damage.
Prepare regular inventory reports and assist in stock audits as required by management.
Manage the issue and return of tools and equipment, ensuring that all tools are returned in proper condition and that any maintenance or repairs needed are communicated promptly.
Assist in coordinating the disposal or recycling of damaged or expired materials in compliance with environmental regulations and project requirements.
Support safety initiatives by ensuring that safety equipment and materials, such as personal protective gear, are available and properly stored.
Assist with the preparation of requisitions and purchase orders for additional materials as needed and ensure timely procurement.
Liaise with vendors and suppliers for the timely supply and replacement of materials, ensuring compliance with project needs and timelines.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; additional certification in inventory management or related fields is a plus.
Minimum of [5] years of experience in materials handling, inventory management, or storekeeping, preferably in the construction industry or working in swampy, wetland, or water-logged environments.
Familiarity with construction materials, tools, and equipment, particularly those sensitive to moisture and environmental exposure.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage large volumes of materials and track inventory effectively.
Proficient in using inventory management software and basic computer programs (e.g., MS Excel, inventory control systems).
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for storing and handling construction materials in challenging environments.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with construction teams, suppliers, and supervisors.
Attention to detail and the ability to detect material discrepancies, defects, or damages.
Preferred Skills:
Forklift or other material handling equipment certification.
Experience working with hazardous materials and maintaining safety standards in construction or wetland environments.
Basic knowledge of environmental considerations and how they affect material storage in swampy or waterlogged areas.
