Job Title: Structural Engineer
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Engineer to join our team, with a specialized focus on working in swampy, wetland, and water-logged areas.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering, with a particular emphasis on designing and overseeing the construction of structures in challenging, water-impacted environments.
As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, stability, and durability of infrastructure projects, addressing the unique challenges posed by swampy, wetland, or aquatic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, analyze, and oversee the construction of structures (e.g., bridges, piers, foundations, and buildings) in swampy or waterlogged terrains, ensuring stability and compliance with safety standards.
Conduct site assessments to evaluate soil conditions, water levels, and potential environmental impacts, using geotechnical data to inform structural design decisions.
Develop and provide technical solutions for addressing challenges specific to swampy and water-logged environments, including foundation design, load-bearing analysis, and moisture control.
Collaborate with environmental engineers and project teams to develop solutions that protect surrounding ecosystems while ensuring the structural integrity of the built environment.
Provide structural designs that incorporate materials and techniques suitable for wet, unstable, and potentially erosive ground conditions, such as piling systems, floating foundations, and geotechnical reinforcement.
Perform structural analysis using advanced modeling software (e.g., STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS) to ensure safety and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Oversee construction activities, ensuring that all work aligns with the approved designs, local regulations, and environmental protection requirements.
Ensure the correct installation of structural elements, and address unforeseen site conditions or challenges as they arise.
Monitor and inspect ongoing construction work, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Work closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project delivery and timely resolution of any technical issues.
Prepare and present regular project reports, including progress updates, risk assessments, and cost estimates.
Review and approve materials, shop drawings, and submittals related to structural components.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or the ability to obtain one.
Minimum of [10] years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with a focus on challenging terrains such as wetlands, swamps, or coastal areas.
Proven experience designing structures that address the unique challenges of swampy, waterlogged, or unstable ground conditions.
Strong understanding of structural analysis and design, including knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and hydrology.
Familiarity with the use of advanced design software such as AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, and others for structural analysis and design.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices related to construction in water-impacted areas.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative design solutions for complex site conditions.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in designing foundation systems (e.g., pile foundations, caissons) for water-logged environments.
Familiarity with construction methods for handling soft soil and wetland areas, including the use of specialized geosynthetics, floating structures, and innovative stabilization techniques.
Experience with environmental impact assessments and sustainability considerations in construction projects.
Strong project management skills and experience handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Application Closing Date
