Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to join our team, specifically for overseeing the financial management of construction projects in swampy, wetland, and waterlogged areas.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the company’s accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with relevant regulations.
This role will require expertise in financial controls and the ability to adapt accounting practices to the unique challenges of construction projects in difficult environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements, ensuring that all financial transactions, records, and reports comply with accounting principles and standards.
Manage the accounting team, providing guidance on financial matters and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations of the finance department.
Oversee the development and implementation of budgets for construction projects, particularly those in swampy or waterlogged environments, ensuring proper cost estimation and resource allocation.
Monitor cash flow, ensuring the company has sufficient liquidity for project needs while maintaining financial stability.
Track project costs, including materials, labor, and equipment usage, providing cost control recommendations to project managers to ensure budgets are adhered to.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, preparing and submitting tax filings, and maintaining records for audits and tax reporting.
Collaborate with senior management to prepare financial forecasts and long-term financial planning.
Oversee the preparation of periodic financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, providing key insights and recommendations for financial improvement.
Implement and manage internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and financial integrity.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment and collection processes, and resolving discrepancies when necessary.
Prepare and oversee payroll processing, ensuring that employees are paid correctly and on time, and that all relevant tax deductions are made.
Maintain relationships with external auditors, ensuring smooth year-end audits and financial assessments.
Ensure the accurate tracking and reporting of materials, equipment, and labor costs specific to swampy and wetland construction sites.
Conduct financial risk assessments and make recommendations for mitigating risks related to construction in unstable environments, such as flood risks, material costs, or unexpected delays.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or other relevant professional certification is preferred.
Minimum of [10] years of experience as an accountant, with a focus on the construction industry or large-scale infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting, particularly as it relates to construction project management.
Experience working in the construction industry, particularly in wetland, swampy, or waterlogged environments, and understanding the unique financial challenges these projects present.
Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP) and advanced knowledge of Excel.
Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading a team of accountants.
Ability to analyze complex financial data and present it in a clear, actionable format.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with project managers, contractors, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of environmental regulations and how they impact project costs and financial reporting in wetland or swamp construction projects.
Experience managing financials for projects with long-term timelines or complex, evolving budgets.
Familiarity with risk management principles and the ability to identify and mitigate financial risks in construction.
