Job Title: Chief Security Officer (CSO) - Estate

Location: Eti-Osa, Lagos
Reports To: Estate Owner / Estate Manager

Job Summary

  • The Chief Security Officer (CSO) for the estate is responsible for overseeing the security of all property, buildings, residents, staff, and assets.
  • This includes physical security systems, staff management, emergency response planning, and crisis management. 
  • The CSO will ensure that all security protocols are in place and followed to protect the estate and its occupants from risks and threats, while maintaining a discreet, high level of service for the estate.

Key Responsibilities
Security Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy for the estate, ensuring the protection of all buildings, grounds, residents, and staff.
  • Lead the estate's security team, including security officers, surveillance operators, and other personnel, to ensure optimal security operations.
  • Establish and enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring they are aligned with the estate's needs and industry best practices.

Physical Security & Access Control:

  • Oversee the security infrastructure for the estate, including surveillance systems, alarm systems, lighting, and access control.
  • Manage and monitor all entry and exit points, ensuring only authorized individuals have access to the estate.
  • Maintain security systems and equipment to ensure they are in proper working condition at all times.
  • Coordinate with external security agencies as necessary to enhance security measures (e.g., private security companies, local law enforcement).

Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential security risks associated with the estate, including natural disasters, break-ins, and emergency situations.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments of the property to proactively address security threats.
  • Monitor security trends and adapt strategies to address emerging risks.

Emergency Response & Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement emergency response protocols for various scenarios such as medical emergencies, fire, natural disasters, or security breaches.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency response efforts in the event of an incident, ensuring safety and minimal disruption.
  • Train staff and security personnel in emergency procedures, evacuations, and first-aid measures.

Personnel Management & Training:

  • Hire, train, and manage security staff, including security guards, surveillance personnel, and other estate-related security employees.
  • Conduct regular security training sessions for staff to ensure everyone is prepared to respond appropriately to security concerns.
  • Manage staff schedules, ensuring adequate security coverage 24/7.

Collaboration & Reporting:

  • Work closely with the Estate Manager, other senior staff, and the estate owner to ensure security measures align with operational and personal requirements.
  • Provide regular security updates and incident reports to estate management and owners, maintaining clear and detailed documentation of security-related activities.
  • Serve as the point of contact for any security-related issues, ensuring swift communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Surveillance & Technology Oversight:

  • Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of surveillance equipment such as cameras, motion detectors, and other security technologies.
  • Monitor surveillance feeds to ensure real-time assessment of security conditions across the estate.
  • Stay updated on the latest security technologies and recommend upgrades to improve security efficiency.

Vendor and Contractor Management:

  • Manage relationships with external security contractors, such as security alarm companies, private security firms, and maintenance vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure service providers meet the estate's security needs.
  • Oversee contracts for security-related services, such as access control systems and surveillance equipment.

Visitor & Guest Management:

  • Oversee the security protocol for managing guests, visitors, and contractors entering the estate.
  • Ensure that all visitors are properly screened and escorted, adhering to estate security rules.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for maintaining guest safety and privacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or certification in security management, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing security for high-net-worth individuals or luxury estates.
  • First Aid/CPR certification and experience with medical emergencies.
  • Background in law enforcement, military service, or private security.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chief Security Officer, Estate Security Manager, or in a similar senior security role.
  • Strong knowledge of security systems (surveillance, access control, alarm systems) and physical security operations.
  • Extensive experience in crisis management, emergency planning, and incident response.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a security team.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate risks, creating and enforcing policies that safeguard people and assets.
  • Discretion and professionalism, particularly in a high-net-worth or luxury environment.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with estate owners, guests, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant local laws and regulations regarding security and privacy.
