Job Summary
Provide strategic support and a structured approach for identifying, measuring, controlling and reporting on all risks faced by the Bank, articulate and control the level of risks (credit, operational, market taken across the Bank), pursuant to the achievement of the Bank’s strategic objective.
To maintain a balanced Credit portfolio mix in terms of maturity, sector and industries while ensuring all identified risks are mitigated in order to enhance financial performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Planning, designing and implementing overall risk management processes and procedures for the Bank
Create an integrated Enterprise Management Framework for the entire Bank
Maintenance of a Risk Reporting System in an appropriate way for different audiences, for example to the Board of Directors so they understand the most significant risks, to senior management and business heads to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their parts of the business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks procedures.
Performance of periodic assessment, which involves managing the process of analyzing upside and downside risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating the quantitative and qualitative risks affecting the business.
Monitors with the Bank’s internal policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to the integrity of the Bank’s clients, sponsors, borrowers, and other counterparties with whom the Bank interacts.
Review of risk exposure and risk evaluation which involves comparing estimated risks with risk criteria established by the organization such as costs, exposure limits, legal requirements and environmental factors.
Corporate governance involving external risk reporting to stakeholders.
Risk treatment by selecting and implementing measures to control and mitigate risks including activities to avoid risks, transfer risks and finance risks.
Conducting reviews of policy, processes and systems including liaison with internal and external auditors.
At a strategic level, contributing to process mapping in order to understand business processes and linkage to areas of risk.
Ensure maintenance of high departmental standards and providing support, education and training to staff, commonly at the management level.
Coordinate with the Bank’s nominated Anti-Money Laundering Officer and ensures liaison with relevant external bodies, including standard setters and external experts.
Advise management of any possible area of policy weakness and recommend amendment as appropriate.
Custody of all bank’s policies, process and key function documents
Ensure that activities of departments and units are carried out with management-established procedures and industry standards.
Coordinate timely rendition of reports on daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc basis.
Participate within the senior management in the establishment and approval of the specific, policies, processes and procedures in the different units within the organization.
Ensure that the policies and processes set/defined are in line with risk tolerance limits set by the board and the overall strategy and target segment of the Bank
Validate the risk profiles, exposure levels and covering mechanisms area in accordance with the business strategy and the institution's target market.
Supervise risk exposure and authorization limits as set out in policies.
Verify that effective communication channels are in place with the purpose that the areas involved in the acceptance, registry, identification, measuring, and management of risks are fully aware of the events administered.
Timely review and analysis of banking credit.
Ensuring that the micro-credit balance portfolio of Non-performing loans is within the acceptable regulatory limit.
Promote awareness of risk and risk management across the bank.
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the MD/CEO and/or Board of Directors of the Bank.
First degree from a reputable University with a minimum of 15 years of working experience in risk management in the financial sector
Must be a chartered accountant with at least 7 years post qualification experience, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (CERP)
An MBA will be an advantage
