Job Title: Principal Risk Engineer (Oil & Gas)
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Principal Risk Engineer with 5–7 years of experience in the oil and gas industry to lead risk management efforts across project lifecycles.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating project risks to ensure operational and financial stability.
Job Description
Develop and implement risk management strategies for oil and gas projects.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments to identify potential project risks.
Utilize risk analysis tools such as Monte Carlo simulations, HAZOP, FMEA, and Bow-Tie analysis.
Ensure compliance with industry risk management standards, regulatory guidelines, and NOGICD Act 2010.
Collaborate with engineering, project management, procurement, and finance teams to mitigate risks.
Provide risk reporting, dashboards, and decision-support analysis for stakeholders.
Monitor emerging risks and propose mitigation strategies to prevent project delays or cost overruns.
Support contract risk evaluation and assess financial and operational implications.
Implement and maintain a risk register to track and document risk mitigation efforts.
Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers on risk management best practices.
Principal Accountabilities:
Develop and maintain risk management frameworks and mitigation strategies.
Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures.
Ensure compliance with NCDMB and industry risk standards.
Provide regular risk reporting and variance analysis.
Support project teams with risk-based decision-making.
Academic Qualifications
University degree/Higher National Diploma in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Risk Management, or related field).
Work Experience:
5 - 7 years of experience in risk engineering, project risk management, or related roles in the oil and gas industry.
Technical/Leadership Skills:
Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and tools (HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, FMEA, Bow-Tie Analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, etc.).
Strong knowledge of project risk management frameworks (ISO 31000, PMI Risk Management, etc.).
Proficiency in risk analysis software (Primavera Risk, ARM, @RISK, or equivalent tools).
Understanding of NOGICD Act 2010 and compliance requirements.
Experience in financial risk analysis and cost risk management.
Ability to develop and maintain a risk register and risk mitigation plans.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Experience in conducting risk workshops and training sessions.
