Job Summary
The Hotel Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records and transactions of the hotel. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting regulations, and support for the hotel’s financial decision-making processes. The Hotel Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining the financial health of the hotel by overseeing daily financial operations and preparing financial statements.
Main Duties
Manage daily financial transactions, including processing invoices, posting payments, and tracking hotel revenue.
Prepare monthly management accounts and annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
Conduct monthly reconciliations of balance sheets and bank statements to ensure accuracy.
Reporting:
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including income statements and cash flow reports.
Generate detailed financial reports for management review to assist in strategic decision-making.
Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely payment to vendors while maintaining positive relationships.
Monitor accounts receivable to minimize outstanding debts and ensure timely collection from guests and corporate clients.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal accounting regulations.
Implement internal control measures to safeguard assets and prevent fraud or misappropriation of funds.
Support payroll processing by ensuring accurate entry of employee hours, deductions, and benefits.
Assist in preparing payroll reports and ensuring compliance with tax regulations related to payroll.
Collaborate with management to prepare operational budgets, forecasts, and variance reports.
Analyze financial performance against budgeted targets and provide insights for improvement.
Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
Work closely with other departments to gather necessary financial data for reporting purposes.
Train and support junior accounting staff in their roles as needed.
Monitor departmental spending against budgets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
Analyze cost structures to identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising service quality.
Prepare cash flow forecasts to ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
Monitor cash flow trends and implement strategies to optimize working capital.
Conduct regular analysis of revenue streams (e.g., room sales, food & beverage) to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
Provide management with insights on pricing strategies based on market analysis.
Oversee inventory accounting for food, beverages, supplies, and other assets to ensure accurate valuation on the balance sheet.
Collaborate with department heads to conduct periodic inventory counts.
Develop training materials related to financial procedures for staff across departments.
Facilitate workshops on basic financial literacy for non-financial managers.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in hotel accounting or a similar role within the hospitality industry.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices specific to the hospitality sector.
Salary
N150,000.00 – N200,000.00 monthly
