The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Protection of Family Links Field Officer (PFL) II
Under the direct supervision of the PFL field officer 3 in Abuja, the PFL 2 contribute to the implementation and development of activities related to protection of family links in Abuja and other ICRC sub structures in Nigeria.
Your Role
Provides support to activities relating to missing persons.
Supports the PFL FO 3 through facilitation of meetings with interlocutors and families of missing persons, field trips, training courses, workshops, conferences, and other related activities.
Provides information about the file of the missing persons and presents synthesis of problematic.
Advises on culture, politics, general situation and share relevant information related to the context.
Monitors government policies and guidelines addressing the issue of missing persons in Nigeria and contributes to influence their development and effective implementation.
Carries out media monitoring for a general follow up of the issue of missing persons in Nigeria.
Updates the mapping of relevant actors and contributes to developing/maintaining contact with them.
Interviews families of the missing persons and keeps regular contact with them to understand the humanitarian consequences and report their needs.
Interprets accurately from Hausa to English and vice versa during meetings with families of the missing.
Receives visits and phone enquiries from beneficiaries, responds to them, and transmits the information to the concerned team for action.
Files all individual PFL files and Red Cross Messages opened and received from Sub-Delegations and abroad.
Together with the PFL FO 3, assists during family reunifications in the lake Chad region, drafts donation certificates and handover certificates prior to family reunifications.
Daily manages and follows on correspondence on the ABJ Tracing Services Task Manager (STM).
Raises supply requests to purchase items needed for field activities, training courses, workshops, conferences, and other activities related to the Missing and PFL.
Carry out administrative tasks for the PFL team, such as processing financial documents ensuring ICRC administrative procedures, using all internal tools provided.
Can be requested for other tasks that contribute to the overall implementation of PFL activities.
Your Profile
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social science or social work
3 years of work experience in similar field
Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Hausa- a must and (other local language is an asset)
Good computer skill; with Excel, word and power point
Good knowledge of local cultural aspects and geographically assigned area.
Good analytical skills.
Applicant must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
