Job Title: Digital Gender Norms Research Consultant

Purpose of the Role
To lead formative research in Kano and Kaduna to explore social and gender norms influencing digital access and usage among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their reference groups.
Scope of Work
BBC Media Action has considerable experience using a mix of mass media, digital tools that we have built, and group discussions to shape social norms and behaviors.
Our work globally has demonstrated the transformative potential of using media, communication and social dialogue to challenge the underlying social and structural drivers of gender equality, including shifting discriminatory norms.
BBC Media Action has recently begun implementing an adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) digital engagement and norms initiative.
In Nigeria, this intervention is designed to cover Kano and Kaduna with a set of activities that will bring together female youth networks and peer groups with a view to understanding the binding constraints that adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) face in digital access and how their inclusion can have layered digital inclusion impact in their communities.
Job purpose
The Digital Gender Norms Research Consultant will:
Lead formative research in Kano and Kaduna to explore social and gender norms influencing digital access and usage among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their reference groups.
Deepen their understanding of the research approach, theory of change, and donor commitments by reviewing concept notes and engaging with the Head of Research in Nigeria and the central research team in London.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Develop a comprehensive research design and select suitable tools in collaboration with the Head of Research.
Develop research instruments tailored to diverse participants and guide the field team to ensure data collection aligns with research objectives and maintains high quality.
Data analysis will be complemented by regular immersion sessions with the field team, the Head of Research, and the central team in London.
Draft a report including recommendations for interventions based on the findings and insights, finalizing it after incorporating feedback from relevant stakeholders. Day-to-day progress and challenges will be reported to the Head of Research.

*The payment will be made in package (subject to negotiation) which will be disbursed according to the percentage (%) mentioned above.
Ideal candidate
Education background in Gender studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Science disciplines and any other relevant discipline.
Experience in leading designing and delivering high-quality research outputs within gender discipline.
Experience working as a lead researcher in qualitative research handling community level gender norms.
Expertise in designing effective research tools to gather data on social and gender norms from adolescent girls in Nigeria
Excellent track record of analyzing digital trend and practices across media and communication platforms.
Experience in documentation and report writing to a high standard
Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Excellent English and Hausa language skills (written and spoken).
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the proven ability to prioritize, work independently and maintain attention to detail.
