Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, private, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Médecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are looking to fill the Nursing Team Supervisor (Outreach) position in our Zamfara Secondary Healthcare Project, Talata Mafara Zamfara State.
Main Objective and Responsibilities of the Position
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action
General Accountabilities
Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities
General:
Under the outreach NAM, the NTS is directly supervising and overseeing outreach medical activities, this includes 4 TPHCS and ATFC activities integrated into two TPHCS in Talata Mafara LGA.
In collaboration with MoH and MSF HP supervisors, ensure community engagement in the community sensitization on free care for malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea and malnutrition in the TPHCS.
The NTS is responsible for the quality nursing care through training and on Job supervision/trainings.
In collaboration with WatSan and IPC supervisor, ensure that hygiene measures are implemented (cleanliness, hand-washing points, hand sanitizers, etc.).
The NTS ensure all necessary stationaries are available in the facility and the drinking water is available for patients and staff.
Ensure proper triage and flow of patients to reduce wait times and maximize efficient use of resources.
Ensure that all bracelets are dated before placing them on children's arms at admission. They are collected when the children are discharged and shown to you to ensure that the length of stay in the program is respected for each child.
Nursing Care:
Implement all MSF protocols, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that guide the day-to-day activities…
Ensure that all referred malnutrition cases meet ITFC admission criteria and ITFC cases referred to ATFC are well received and properly managed.
Ensure Patient consultation (triage, consultation and drug provision) start at due time.
Put in place and maintain hygiene rules and universal precautions to staff involved in patient care.
Ensure all staff under him/her know the PEP protocol (what to do in case of accidental exposure).
Ensure vaccination for routine immunization is provided regularly to children attending care in ATFC and TPHCS.
Data Management and Reporting:
Collect and analyze daily, weekly and monthly medical data, and then submit them to the NAM on a regular and just-in-time basis.
Draft the monthly medical report and submit it to the NAM in real time.
Provide feedback to the team on results obtained and remarks
Pharmacy Management /Accountability:
Analyze medical orders, ensuring that the consumption match consultations before submitting them to the NAM for validation.
Ensure that the consumption is recorded and are shared with the NAM on daily basis.
Ensure that empty sachets of PPN returned by caretakers match the quantities served, then take them to the incinerator.
Ensure the malaria RDT cassettes used are kept at the facility to be crosschecked (positive and negative tests) by the NTS before being destroyed.
HR Management and development:
Manage staff according to MSF principles and project objectives, promote medical ethics, comply with the code of conduct and consider the person at the center of care.
Collect and validate the rosters for incentive staff, submit them to the NAM for verification before submission to the administration.
Identify training needs and organizes sessions within his/her team or within the general framework of personnel development.
Reports to the line manager (NAM-OR) any work-related problem/ incident identified at the clinic.
Others:
Carry out other relevant/delegated duties as may be required or assigned by his/her supervisor.
Requirements

Educational Qualification: Specialty (nurse or anesthetist) Degree / Diploma essential
Experience: Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Language: Mission and local Language essential.
Other:
Basic computer knowledge and skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
Demonstrated leadership/management experience
Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting
