Job Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Hotel Accountant to manage the financial operations of our hotel.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality accounting, an eye for detail, and the ability to support the hotel’s financial performance through accurate reporting and analysis.
You will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting budgeting processes, and ensuring compliance with hospitality industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations:
Oversee daily financial transactions, including income audits, expense tracking, and cash flow management specific to hotel operations.
Manage guest ledger accounts, reconciling payments and resolving discrepancies.
Process accounts payable/receivable, including supplier invoices, payments, and guest refunds.
Revenue and Cost Management:
Monitor and report on revenue streams such as room bookings, food and beverage sales, event spaces, and other services.
Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly revenue and occupancy reports for management.
Analyze financial performance to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising guest satisfaction.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Support the preparation of annual budgets and monthly financial forecasts in collaboration with the General Manager and department heads.
Track actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis.
Compliance and Auditing:
Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, including VAT, sales tax, and other applicable laws.
Prepare financial statements and assist with internal and external audits specific to the hospitality industry.
Systems and Process Management:
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger with accurate postings for hotel-specific transactions.
Use hotel management systems (e.g., Opera, Micros, or similar) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) to record and analyze financial data.
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Hospitality Management (with an accounting focus).
CPA, ACCA, or other relevant certifications (preferred).
2 - 4 years of accounting experience, preferably in the hotel or hospitality industry.
Proficiency in hotel management systems (e.g., Opera, MICROS, or similar) and accounting software.
Solid understanding of financial principles specific to the hospitality industry, including revenue recognition and cost allocation.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Experience with hotel budgeting and forecasting processes.
Familiarity with key performance indicators (KPIs) in the hospitality industry, such as ADR (Average Daily Rate) and RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room).
Knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on deadlines.
