Job Title: Business Development Manager (Sales - Renewable Energy)

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The Business Development Manager (Sales - Renewable Energy) is responsible for driving the growth and expansion of the company’s renewable energy portfolio.
  • This includes identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strategic partnerships, developing comprehensive sales strategies and overseeing the execution of projects in the renewable energy sector.
  • This role demands a deep understanding of the renewable energy market, project management and a strong ability to align organizational goals with market opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Market Development:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for the renewable energy division.
  • Identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities within the renewable energy sector.
  • Conduct market research and feasibility studies to assess the viability of potential projects and business ventures.

Sales and Revenue Growth:

  • Generate leads, identify potential customers and secure contracts for renewable energy projects.
  • Develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline to achieve or exceed revenue targets.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals tailored to client needs.

Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, suppliers and customers.
  • Negotiate terms and agreements with partners, ensuring alignment with company objectives.

Project Management and Execution:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget while meeting quality and regulatory standards.
  • Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies for projects and partnerships.

Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability:

  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to renewable energy projects.
  • Advocate for and implement sustainable practices within the organization and in client engagements.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor associates involved in renewable energy initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Reporting and Analytics:

  • Develop detailed reports and presentations on project progress, market trends and financial performance.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in business development, project management, or sales in the renewable energy sector.
  • Proven track record of securing and managing renewable energy projects.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project) and CRM software.
  • Certifications in renewable energy (e.g., Solar Energy Certification, PMP) are advantageous.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Industry Expertise: In-depth knowledge of renewable energy technologies particularly solar.
  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of financial modelling, contracts and regulatory frameworks in the renewable energy sector.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement and negotiations.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in managing large-scale renewable energy projects with complex timelines and budgets.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze market trends, financial data, and technical specifications to make data-driven decisions.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills to drive initiatives and inspire collaboration.
