Job Summary
The Aluminum Furnace Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operation of aluminum melting furnaces within the production facility.
This role involves managing a team of furnace operators, ensuring efficient and safe production processes, maintaining high-quality standards, and optimizing furnace performance.
The supervisor plays a critical role in meeting production targets, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Leadership:
Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of furnace operators, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance.
Schedule shifts and assign tasks to ensure continuous operation of the aluminum furnaces and meet production goals.
Conduct regular team meetings to discuss production targets, safety updates, and process improvements.
Furnace Operation Management:
Oversee the daily operation of aluminum melting furnaces, ensuring adherence to established processes and procedures.
Monitor furnace performance, including temperature, melt rate, and material inputs, to ensure the efficient production of high-quality aluminum.
Collaborate with the production team to coordinate furnace operations with other processes such as casting, rolling, and finishing.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all aluminum produced meets the required quality standards through regular monitoring and sampling.
Implement and enforce quality control measures to detect and address any deviations or defects in the production process.
Process Optimization:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance furnace efficiency, reduce waste, and improve output quality.
Work with engineering and maintenance teams to optimize furnace performance and address any technical issues.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Conduct safety inspections and audits, identifying potential hazards and ensuring that corrective actions are taken promptly.
Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, particularly those related to emissions and waste management.
Maintenance Oversight:
Coordinate and oversee routine maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of the furnaces and associated equipment.
Schedule and manage planned maintenance shutdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of furnace operations, including production data, material usage, maintenance logs, and any incidents or deviations.
Prepare and submit regular reports on production performance, quality metrics, and safety compliance to senior management.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments, including production planning, quality assurance, and maintenance, to ensure seamless operations and achieve production goals.
Communicate effectively with plant management regarding furnace operations, personnel performance, and any issues that may impact production.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: B.Sc; technical certification in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, or a related field is an advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in aluminum furnace operations or related roles in a foundry or smelting environment.
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of aluminum melting and casting processes.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining induction, reverberatory, or rotary furnaces.
Familiarity with quality control tools, such as spectrometers and temperature sensors.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and develop a team.
Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve technical issues promptly.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination.
Experinced in the use of ERP's
