The Civil Design Vetting Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the civil engineering integrity, safety, and compliance of designs related to oil and gas pipeline projects.
As part of the PMC team, the engineer will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving civil engineering designs prepared by contractors, ensuring alignment with industry standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design Review and Approval:
Review and validate civil and structural engineering designs submitted by contractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications, standards, and applicable codes (e.g., ASME, ASTM, API, BS, etc.).
Conduct detailed checks of design calculations, drawings, and models for pipeline-related infrastructure, including pump stations, compressor stations, block valve stations, and associated facilities.
Compliance and Standards:
Ensure all designs align with safety, environmental, and quality standards as stipulated in local and international regulations.
Verify adherence to client-approved standards, best practices, and company guidelines in all design submissions.
Technical Evaluation:
Assess soil reports, geotechnical studies, and hydrological data for their impact on civil design.
Evaluate foundation designs for aboveground structures, pipeline supports, and special crossings (e.g., river or highway crossings).
Coordination and Liaison:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, pipeline, and electrical engineers, to ensure seamless integration of civil designs with overall project plans.
Act as the client’s representative in design-related meetings and coordinate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
Problem Solving and Risk Mitigation:
Identify potential design-related risks and propose mitigative measures to prevent delays or safety concerns.
Provide solutions to field issues related to civil engineering design during construction.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of design reviews, comments, and approvals.
Prepare periodic reports for project management, highlighting key design issues and resolutions.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
Experience:
8 - 10 years of relevant experience in civil engineering design and review, specifically in oil and gas pipeline projects or heavy infrastructure projects.
Experience with project management consultancy (PMC) services is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in civil engineering design software, such as STAAD. Pro, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools.
Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and soil-structure interaction.
Familiarity with oil and gas industry standards (API, ASME, AWWA, etc.).
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Certifications (Preferred):
Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Key Deliverables:
Comprehensive design review reports.
Approval or rejection of contractor submissions with detailed feedback.
Coordination plans for resolving design conflicts.
