Job Description
We seek a skilled and experienced Fiber Optic Splicing Technician to join our team.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cable systems.
This position requires technical expertise, precision, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results while adhering to safety and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Fiber Installation: Install fiber optic cables, ensuring proper placement, secure connections, and adherence to industry standards.
Splicing and Termination: Perform fiber splicing and termination using single-fusion, mass-fusion, and mechanical methods with high accuracy.
System Troubleshooting: Utilize tools such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), Visual Fault Locators (VFL), and power meters to identify and resolve network issues.
Network Testing: Conduct advanced testing of fiber optic systems, interpreting OTDR results to ensure optimal network performance.
Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of fiber networks to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of installations, tests, and repairs for operational and compliance purposes.
Safety Compliance: Strictly follow all safety procedures and industry best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; vocational training in fiber optics is a plus.
Certifications in fiber optics (e.g., CFOT, FOA) and familiarity with network infrastructure and layouts in a variety of environments will be an added advantage.
Experience: 2 - 4 years of hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing, testing, and maintenance.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with advanced fiber optic tools and equipment, including OTDR, VFL, and power meters.
Physical Capability: Comfortable working at heights, including climbing ladders and using elevated platforms.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively document work and collaborate with teams.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Core Competencies:
Proficient in using and interpreting results from OTDR, VFL, and power meters.
Skilled in fiber splicing techniques, including single-fusion, mass-fusion, and mechanical splicing.
Ability to perform precise fiber optic terminations.
Competent in troubleshooting and diagnosing faults in fiber optic networks.
Expertise in reading and interpreting fiber optic network diagrams and schematics.
