Egbin Power Plc. Lagos is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria. Often seen as the biggest single generating power station in Sub-Saharan Africa, it was built to meet the every rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs.
Following the nation’s privatization exercise, Sahara, through its power division, Sahara Power Group and sundry affiliations, acquired the 1320 MW installed capacity Egbin Power Plant. We are working towards deploying a minimum of 5,000 MW of electricity generation over the next five years.
The Head of Department, Electrical Maintenance, oversees the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all electrical systems and equipment at Egbin Power Plc.
This role ensures electrical assets' reliable and efficient operation, supports plant performance and adheres to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable for the availability, reliability, and safe operating condition of all electrical assets in Egbin Power plc.
Ensure the department is well structured with the right skill set and fit to meet plant performance and efficiency needs.
Benchmark maintenance activities with industry best practices.
Cascade business objectives to the electrical maintenance department objective.
Conduct regular performance reviews to align departmental performance with business objectives.
Manage the department's material and services procurement process.
Train direct reports on budgeting and resources management.
Supervise budget planning, formulation, and control for the electrical department.
Effective management of both internal and external stakeholders (TCN, NERC, NEMSA, etc).
Ensure effective maintenance backlog management and scoping for plant overhauls and rehabilitation.
Ensure all maintenance activities have standard operating procedures and work instructions.
Ensure the implementation of maintenance best practices and reliability-centred maintenance
Accountable for the department of human and material resources management.
Schedule reviews of the departmental process manual for continuous improvement.
Schedule reviews of SOPs and WIS for continuous improvement.
Ensure RCAS is performed on all failures and capas recommendations are implemented.
Implement the requirements of the Integrated Management Systems
Ensure awareness, understanding and application of QHSE policy on assigned jobs, and ensure the integration of the IMS requirements (iso 9001:2015, 14001:2015 & 45001:2018) into the departmental processes.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Maintenance.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering.
Postgraduate/relevant professional qualification.
Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Registered Engineer
SMRP, CMRP Certification or other Relevant Certification.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience with at least five (5) years in a managerial role and significant exposure to Electrical maintenance of power plant operations.
Skills and Competencies:
Possess technical knowledge of all electrical systems in the power plant.
Good understanding of the operations and history of power plant equipment.
Knowledge of standard operating procedures for Electrical maintenance of electrical equipment.
Knowledge of maintenance best practices and reliability-centred maintenance.
Knowledge of applicable regulations in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry.
In-depth knowledge of Quality and Safety Management Systems Implementation and Audit.
Good Knowledge of the power generation process.
Good Knowledge of modern maintenance management practices and spare inventory management.
Excellent leadership skills.
Excellent project management skills.
Good communication and reporting skills.
