Center for Advocacy, Transparency, and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) is established in 2018 as registered NGO with Head Office in Maiduguri - Borno State, with offices across Yobe and Adamawa state. We have been visible in Borno Adamawa and Yobe states implementing projects in Education, Protection (Child /GBV), WaSH, Nutrition, Empowerment/Livelihood, Governance and Peace Building. Our approach is aligned with our mission to enhance services delivery and empower citizens, through our Humanitarian, Development, and peace building nexus (HDP).
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Child Protection Assistant
Location: Borno
Employment Type: Contract(12 Months)
Position Reports to: Child Protection Officer
Position directly supervises: PSS Facilitators
Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation:
Assist the Child Protection Officer in designing, developing, and implementing child protection programs that meet best practice standards, ensuring the safety of beneficiaries and staff.
Collaborate in conducting assessments to identify appropriate interventions for children in need and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
Support the implementation of psychosocial strategies in line with program objectives, targeting children and families.
Facilitate community-driven programming by involving community leaders in project design and implementation.
Provide day-to-day support for the program's operations, ensuring effective and quality implementation at field sites.
Staff and Community Capacity Building:
Provide training, technical assistance, and capacity building to program staff and local partners, ensuring adherence to child protection standards.
Assist in the development and implementation of staff training plans in coordination with the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Coordinator to address child protection concerns.
Assist in training community service providers and relevant partners in child protection mechanisms, case management, and safe referral pathways.
Collaborate with the Protection and Education sectors to integrate child protection and education programming effectively.
Identify training needs and support the delivery of training sessions for field officers and other program staff.
Inter-Agency Coordination:
Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, NGOs, UN agencies, local partners, and government entities such as NEMA and SEMA, to foster multi-agency collaboration.
Share information from coordination meetings to ensure alignment and a shared understanding of child protection priorities and needs.
Represent the organization in child protection-related coordination meetings, both internal and external, and actively engage in discussions.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Assist in monitoring and evaluating child protection programs by supporting the implementation of monitoring tools and data collection systems.
Regularly review and clean data from field sites, ensuring accuracy and completeness for reporting purposes.
Provide weekly and monthly progress reports to the Child Protection Program Coordinator, identifying challenges, successes, and recommendations.
Conduct field visits to program sites to monitor program quality, support field staff, and assess the effectiveness of interventions.
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in child protection, social services, or humanitarian programming.
Strong understanding of child protection principles, case management, and safe referral pathways.
Experience working in a multi-agency, multicultural environment.
Strong training, facilitation, and capacity-building skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in [insert language(s)].
Ability to travel regularly to field sites.
Desirable Skills:
Experience in psychosocial support programming or gender-based violence (GBV) interventions.
Knowledge of local child protection systems and legislation.
Familiarity with child protection monitoring tools and data systems.
