The Big Smile Foundation is a women/youth led non-governmental organization providing humanitarian assistance across the BAY states within Northeast Nigeria. TBSF with support from United Nation Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and Funding from UKAID is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safeguarding and Accountability Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will lead on safeguarding and accountability initiatives, ensuring that our organization maintains the highest standards of protection and accountability.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Safeguarding and Accountability Officer
Responsibilities
Functions / Day to day activities:
Develop and implement safeguarding policies, procedures, and guidelines
Conduct safeguarding training and capacity-building programs for staff and partners
Investigate and respond to safeguarding concerns and incidents
Ensure compliance with accountability frameworks and standards
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government agencies
Provide technical support and guidance on safeguarding and accountability to staffs
Build capacity of staff and partners to implement safeguarding and accountability mechanisms
Participate in organizational meetings and committees related to safeguarding and accountability
Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor
Location:
Maiduguri, Borno State (with frequent travel to Local Government Areas where the project will be implemented).
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Law, International Development)
At least 2 years of experience in safeguarding, accountability, or a related field
Proven track record of developing and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
Experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., children, women, marginalized groups)
Knowledge of accountability mechanisms and complaint response procedures
Training or certification in safeguarding, child protection, or a related field
Strong knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices
Must have a working laptop
Desirable skills:
A demonstrated ability to multi-task and process information into action in a timely manner
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and either Kanuri or Hausa.
Interpersonal Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building effective relationships and maintaining effective communication with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
Presentation Skills: Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to engage and captivate an audience.
Organizational Competence: Outstanding organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
