Position Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting ultrasound examinations to produce high-quality diagnostic images. The role requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the ability to operate ultrasound equipment efficiently.
Job Description
Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, ultrasounds, and other modalities.
Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret and prepare imaging results.
Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients, including abdominal, obstetrical, gynaecological, vascular, and other speciality areas as needed.
Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and radiography/sonography standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to optimize imaging services.
Ensuring clear images for diagnostic purposes and making adjustments to the sonographic equipment when necessary.
Monitoring and caring for patients to ensure their safety and comfort during the imaging procedures.
Presenting the sonograms and preliminary findings to the Physicians.
Completing the appropriate documentation and maintaining patients' histories and medical records.
Assisting Physicians and the healthcare teams during invasive procedures.
Operate sonography equipment to record and produce images of the composition, shape and motion of organs, blood, tissues or bodily masses
Select the correct equipment settings and adjust to get the best angles and sites
Scan patient and observe screen to make sure the image is satisfactory and make equipment adjustments as needed
Prepare patients for exams and observe during procedures to ensure their comfort and safety
Determine the best images to include in your report, noting differences between pathological and healthy areas
Follow safety policies as applicable, recognize potential issues and institute measures to prevent complications
Practice sterile procedures and prevent cross contamination
Maintain cleanliness and order of workstations, rooms and equipment
Liaise with HOD and consultant in charge on case management, evaluation and treatment plan.
Carry out procedures as granted and approved in clinical privilege document.
Deal with patients constructively and honestly and manage their grievances.
Keeping abreast of the latest medical information through continuous medical education, formal education and personal professional development.
Facilitate and make clinical & non-clinical presentations at hospital clinical meetings as assigned.
Performing other applicable tasks and duties as assigned by the HOD and Consultant in charge.
Requirements
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
MBBS or its equivalent with up to 2 years’ experience in medical and sonography practice.
Diploma / Certification in Ultrasonography.
Relevant certifications in BLS /ALS/ACLS.
Valid licensure as a sonographer.
Minimum 2 years of experience.
Strong understanding of sonography principles, techniques, and safety protocols.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills.
Proficiency in digital imaging software and technology.
Advanced certification in sonography (e.g., RDMS, RDCS, RT(R)).
Experience with picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).
Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
Resuscitation skills and procedures – Basic and advanced life support.
A ‘cool head’ in emergency situations.
Respect for patients and keeping good relations with colleagues.
Proficiency in medical record documentation.
Computer literacy, including familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Experience working in a diagnostic imaging setting is a plus.
