Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, international organisation. Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication)activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.
Accountabilities
Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.
According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics
Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, worship places, and strategic places in the community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviour observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.
Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.
Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
Keep education and communication areas clean and tidy and professional materials available.
Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Promote MSF services among patients and communities, through clarifying MSF’s mandate in Borno state and explaining admission criteria for MSF facilities.
Management of information related to HP activities, including reports, materials.
Monitoring of stock related to HP activities, non-food items for patient kits.
Ensure all necessary patient in formation forms are properly collected, documented and stored; admission forms, testimonies, relapse, re-admission etc.
Organize -in collaboration with Nilefa Kiji Hospital based staff especially laboratory- blood donation campaigns/drives. In addition to facilitating blood replacement activity through 1) follow-up blood bank stock level in the laboratory, 2) monitor the pool of blood donors and 3) update donors list.
Create positive relationships with community groups (youth/women/leaders etc.), ensuring interactions are based on their needs, and aligned with MSF principles.
Provide health education sessions at the facility and the community when needed.
Support HP Manager/Supervisor in monitoring and evaluation of Health Promotion activities, through setting indicators to assess performance.
Support the HP Supervisor in the pre-testing of IEC tools where necessary
Responible for follow-up of absentees and defaulters through home visit and phone calls.
Analyse behaviours of caregivers and staffs, and act in response in collaboration with the medical team.
Conduct assessments and surveys in colaboration with the medical team.
Support caretakers in navigating facility structures to enusre compliance with rules, rights, responsibilities, and adherence to IPC measures.
MinimumRequired Skills and Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
Education level in Social Science, Health Education, Social Communication, Nurse or Teaching
Internal MSF training on health messages will be necessary
Experience:
Preferable previous experience in teaching, nursing or social work, community mobilization (for MSF at least two years).
Languages:
Essential Fluency in English, Kanuri and Hausa.
Shuwa, and Ngamargu language is desirable
