Job Title: Hydrographic Surveyor
Location: Nigeria
Roles and Responsibilities
Design, plan, and execute hydrographic surveys to gather data for pipeline alignment and installation, including bathymetric data for underwater sections.
Collaborate with project engineers to define survey objectives and select appropriate survey techniques based on project scope and environmental conditions.
Coordinate with stakeholders and authorities to obtain necessary permits and approvals before survey operations commence.
Perform data acquisition using specialized hydrographic survey equipment, including multi-beam echosounders, single-beam echosounders, GNSS receivers, and underwater positioning systems.
Monitor and calibrate survey equipment during operations to ensure data accuracy and quality.
Collect geospatial data, including water depths, sediment profiles, underwater structures, and other relevant parameters.
Process raw survey data using specialized software to produce detailed hydrographic charts, reports, and 3D models for pipeline design and construction teams.
Interpret and analyze data to identify potential challenges, such as submerged obstacles, water flow conditions, or geological features that could affect pipeline installation.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive survey logs, reports, and technical documentation detailing survey methodologies, results, and data analysis.
Produce accurate survey deliverables that align with regulatory and industry standards.
Present survey findings to project managers, engineers, and stakeholders for review and decision-making.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other survey professionals to integrate hydrographic data into the overall project design and construction processes.
Assist in coordinating survey team activities, ensuring the efficient mobilization of survey equipment, vessels, and personnel.
Provide technical support and advice during pipeline installation, ensuring that any discovered issues or changes in terrain are accurately documented and communicated.
Ensure that survey activities are conducted in compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations, especially when surveying in or around protected water bodies.
Participate in risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation efforts to maintain safe survey operations.
Adhere to best practices for the handling and disposal of equipment and materials used in survey activities to minimize environmental impact.
Qualifications and Requirements
A degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Marine Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in hydrographic surveying, particularly in pipeline construction, dredging, or offshore infrastructure projects, with experience in geospatial data analysis and Geographic Information Systems, use of hydrographic survey instruments, and hydrographic data processing software.
Must be certified in the following areas of competence: Certified hydrographic surveyor, FIG/IHO/ICA Category A Certification, GISP Certification, Certified HYPACK/CARIS/SonarWiz software user, GNSS Certified User
