Job Summary
The Weighbridge Operator is responsible for operating the weighbridge equipment to accurately record the weight of incoming and outgoing vehicles transporting aluminum, copper, and other materials.
The role ensures the efficiency of operations by maintaining precise records, enforcing compliance with company policies, and upholding safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Weighing Operations:
Operate the weighbridge to record the gross, tare, and net weights of vehicles.
Ensure that all vehicles entering and leaving the plant are weighed and properly documented.
Verify the accuracy of the weight readings and cross-check against shipment documentation.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Prepare and maintain accurate weighbridge tickets and logs.
Input weight data into the system for inventory tracking and reporting purposes.
Reconcile discrepancies between weighbridge records and dispatch/shipment documents.
Customer and Driver Liaison:
Communicate effectively with drivers, ensuring they follow proper procedures while entering and exiting the weighbridge area.
Provide drivers with weighbridge tickets and instructions for material handling.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Inspect vehicles for proper loading, adherence to weight limits, and safety standards.
Report any incidents, irregularities, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine checks on the weighbridge equipment to ensure accuracy and functionality.
Coordinate with maintenance teams for regular servicing and calibration of the weighbridge system.
Additional Duties:
Support the operations team with administrative or clerical tasks as required.
Provide assistance during audits by supplying weighbridge-related data and records.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements:
Minimum of a High National Diploma or equivalent.
Certification in Trade test or weighing operations or logistics is an advantage.
Experience:
Proven experience as a Weighbridge Operator or in a similar role, preferably in an industrial or recycling environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in operating weighbridge systems and related software.
Basic knowledge of inventory management and logistics operations.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Physically fit to climb stairs and handle occasional lifting tasks.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Accuracy of recorded weights and documentation.
Timeliness in processing vehicles through the weighbridge.
Adherence to safety and compliance standards.
Minimization of weighbridge equipment downtime.
