Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time (Accommodation only for part-time students in Lafia), NYSC Applicants welcome
Working Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Standard working hours, with breaks for religious activities as per company policy)
Job Summary
The Fish Feed Engine Room Assistant will assist in operating and maintaining machinery in the fish feed production facility at LAJ Aquaculture.
The role is designed for individuals seeking practical experience in fish feed production and machinery operation. The assistant will help monitor machine performance, maintain equipment, and ensure the efficient production of high-quality fish feed.
This position is available for full-time and part-time employees, with accommodation provided for part-time students from Lafia.
Key Responsibilities
Engine Room Assistance
Machinery Operation:
Assist in operating feed production machinery such as mixers, grinders, and extruders.
Monitor machinery performance to ensure smooth and efficient feed production processes.
Help load and unload raw materials into the machines and perform other production-related tasks.
Quality Control:
Help monitor the quality of the feed, ensuring it meets the company’s nutritional and quality standards.
Conduct regular checks on feed consistency and report any irregularities to senior staff.
Maintenance & Equipment Care:
Assist in the routine cleaning and maintenance of feed production machinery and equipment.
Perform regular machinery inspections to ensure proper function and report any issues to the Farm Manager.
Help store and organise the tools and equipment used in the engine room.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and maintain cleanliness in the engine room.
Report any health or safety hazards immediately to the Farm Manager.
Record Keeping:
Help maintain accurate records of production, machinery maintenance, and inventory.
Assist with tracking raw material usage and production outputs.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist the Farm Manager with other tasks as required within the feed production process.
Perform any other duties directed by management that align with the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Skills
A minimum of a high school diploma; additional technical training or certifications in machinery operation or agriculture is a plus.
Prior experience in machinery operation or a technical role in a production environment is beneficial but not required.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to tasks.
A basic understanding of feed production processes is a plus.
Good physical fitness for manual tasks and working in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Working Hours & Breaks
Full-time: Standard working hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (5 days a week).
Part-time: Flexible working hours, typically 3 days a week (to be agreed upon with the Farm Manager).
Note: Part-time working hours will be pro-rated based on the number of days worked per week.
Breaks: Employees are allowed breaks for religious activities during the workday, integrated as part of the overall working schedule, as per the company’s policy. Break times will be mutually agreed upon with the Farm Manager to ensure continuity of operations.
Accommodation & Amenities
Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided only for part-time students from Lafia working onsite. The accommodation includes:
Kitchen: Fully equipped for meal preparation.
Electricity & Water: Reliable electricity and water supply included.
Entertainment: Access to Netflix and television for personal relaxation.
Overtime Policy:
No payment will be made for overtime unless it has been prior approved and authorised by the Farm Manager and CEO. Any overtime worked without this authorisation will not be compensated.
Salary
The salary will be benchmarked against the current minimum wage in Nigeria (NGN 70,000).
Current Minimum Wage Benchmark: NGN 70,000 monthlyPart-time Salary: For part-time roles, the salary will be pro-rated based on the number of days worked per week. For example, your salary will be calculated accordingly if you work 3 days per week.
