Job Title: Security Officer

Location: Onsite, Lafia, Nasarawa
Reports To: Site Manager / Farm Manager
Employment Type: Full-time, Onsite
Working Hours: Day and Night Shifts

Job Summary

• The Security Officer will safeguard LAJ Aquaculture’s property, assets, employees, and visitors by maintaining a secure environment.
• This role includes working both day and night shifts to ensure the safety of the premises at all times.
• The Security Officer will monitor security systems, conduct regular patrols, and respond promptly to any incidents, ensuring that all security protocols are followed.

Key Responsibilities

Site Security & Surveillance
Monitoring & Patrol:

• Conduct regular and thorough patrols of the entire site, including both indoor and outdoor areas, to ensure security and safety.
• Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to identify potential threats or breaches.
• Identify and report any suspicious activity or security risks to management immediately.

Access Control:

• Manage the entry and exit of personnel, vehicles, and visitors, ensuring that only authorised individuals are allowed on the premises.
• Check IDs, issue visitor passes, and maintain accurate visitor logs.
• Control access to secure areas and ensure that access is limited to authorised personnel only.

Incident Response:

• Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents, including fire, theft, or other emergencies.
• Take appropriate action in emergencies, including notifying the relevant authorities (police, fire department, etc.).
• Assist in the investigation of security breaches, theft, or vandalism.

Emergency Preparedness:

• Assist in the implementation of emergency plans and evacuation procedures.
• Provide first aid or emergency medical assistance if needed until medical professionals arrive.

Security Administration
Reporting:

• Maintain detailed daily logs of incidents, shifts, and security events.
• Report any irregularities, damage, or safety hazards to the Farm Manager or Site Manager promptly.
• Prepare incident reports and assist with internal investigations as necessary.

Security Equipment Management:

• Ensure that security equipment, such as alarm systems, lighting, and surveillance cameras, are operational.
• Perform routine checks and maintenance of security systems, reporting any issues for prompt repair.

Compliance with Policies:

• Adhere to company security protocols and policies, ensuring full compliance with all safety regulations and legal requirements.
• Participate in ongoing training and security briefings as required.

Customer Service
Visitor Assistance:

• Greet and assist visitors professionally and courteously, providing directions or information as needed.
• Maintain a friendly, approachable demeanour while ensuring safety and security.

Employee Support:

• Provide a visible security presence to employees, reassuring them of their safety while maintaining a vigilant and professional attitude.
• Address employee concerns regarding safety and provide advice or assistance as required.

Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of a high school diploma; additional certifications in security or safety training is a plus.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a similar field is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of security equipment and surveillance systems.
• Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergencies.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good physical fitness and stamina to perform patrols and stand for long periods.
• Attention to detail and ability to detect potential risks.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Trustworthy and reliable, with a high level of integrity.

Working Hours & Breaks:

• Day Shift: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (or as per the agreed schedule).
• Night Shift: 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM (or as per the agreed schedule).
• Breaks: Employees are allowed breaks for religious activities during the workday, integrated as part of the overall working schedule, as per the company’s policy.

Salary

• The salary will be benchmarked against the current minimum wage in Nigeria (NGN 70,000).
• Current Minimum Wage Benchmark: NGN 70,000 monthly
• Shift Allowance: Based on day and night shifts, the salary may be adjusted as per company policy.
