Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, private, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Médecins Sans Frontières and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are looking for one (1) Head of Nutrition Assistants position in our Sokoto NOMA and Emergency Response Project.
Main Objective Purpose of the position
Supervising the nutritional assistants to ensure that nutritional care is being delivered in a safe, effective and timely manner according to MSF protocols, standards and protocols in order to improve health conditions of the targeted population.
General Accountabilities
Monitor daily consumption of therapeutic food and consumables to ensure adequate distribution and quality.
Coordinate nutritional assistants’ activities with medical and logistics teams, addressing barriers to care delivery.
Supervise nutritional assistants in weight measurement, food preparation, and distribution, ensuring hygiene and food safety protocols are followed.
Collaborate with Logistics to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards at the nutritional center.
Ensure staff are trained in medical device use, cleaning, and minor maintenance; report malfunctions to the biomedical team.
Inform mothers about their child’s progress, encourage breastfeeding, and report any concerns related to the child’s condition.
Plan and organize staff schedules, manage absences, and assist nurses with tasks as needed. Report food shortages or issues to the nurse and security concerns to Logistics.
Requirements (Qualifications)
Education: Diploma in Health related course.
Experience: Desirable previous experience in similar position in MSF or other NGO’s in a developing country
Languages: Mission language (English) and local language essential
Competencies: Results and Quality Orientation, Teamwork and Cooperation, Behavioural Flexibility, Commitment to MSF Principles, Service Orientation and Stress Management.
