Maisha Meds is an organisation dedicated to improving health care in Africa. We began full-time operations in 2017 and over the past few years have grown to support over 1.5 million patient encounters annually across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, and Zambia with our suite of software products. We are building the financial and technology infrastructure to enable global health funders to pay for health outcomes at the last mile, with a focus on malaria case management (and results from a RCT with UC Berkeley due out later this year), injectable contraceptives, prenatal care, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, and COVID testing and vaccination.
We’re looking for a Treasury Accountant with technical skills in accounting and banking to manage the company's financial assets and liabilities, ensuring efficient cash flow, and overseeing treasury operations.
Primary duties will include preparing cash flow forecasts, managing bank accounts, tracking upcoming payments and preparing payments for approval and authorization, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
They will assist in monitoring foreign exchange risks, and help optimize liquidity.
Additionally, the Treasury Accountant will support financial reporting and budgeting and liaise with banks and financial institutions to ensure smooth operations and risk mitigation.
Their role is essential in maintaining the company’s financial health and stability.
About the Role
The Treasury Accountant will assist the Finance team in managing the organization’s liquidity, cash flow, and financial risk.
This role involves weekly cash management, bank reconciliations, and assisting with debt management.
The Treasury Accountant will work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations.
This role is based in Lagos, Nigeria with possible travel to Kenya. You will report to Finance Manager.
The start date is 3rd March 2025, and compensation is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Cash Management & Liquidity:
Assist in monitoring weekly cash positions for the US, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria entities, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
Prepare cash forecasts for the regional entities, ensuring that cash is optimally managed across these markets.
Process cash movements, including transfers and funding requests across entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with corporate treasury policies.
Bank Reconciliations & Reporting:
Assist with weekly and monthly bank reconciliations for the entities across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
Coordinate with local banks in each region to address any issues related to transactions, payments, or account maintenance.
Assist in generating reports on cash positions, payments, receipts, and reconciliations for each entity when needed.
Foreign Exchange & Payments Management:
Monitor foreign exchange transactions and ensure optimal execution of currency conversions for each of the four entities.
Support in managing foreign exchange risks, including the implementation of hedging strategies where applicable.
Prepare and process payments across all entities including vendor payments, imprests and reimbursements, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
Compliance & Regulatory:
Assist with ensuring that all treasury activities comply with local regulations, tax laws, and corporate policies in each of the four countries.
Support the preparation of documents for internal audits and external regulatory requirements.
Ad hoc Tasks:
Provide administrative support for treasury-related projects across the entities.
Assist with gathering data and preparing reports for management and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
Academic qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Desired experience and skills:
2 years of experience in a treasury, finance, or accounting role, preferably in a multinational or regional environment.
Experience working with African markets (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria) is an added advantage.
Familiarity with banking and accounting systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
Strong understanding of cash management, bank reconciliation, and financial analysis.
Knowledge of foreign exchange markets and international banking operations.
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across different time zones and cultures.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
