Job Title: University Librarian
Location: Abeokuta, Ogun
The Position
The University Librarian is a Principal Officer and the macademic and professional Head of the Library.
He is directly responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and management of the University Library.
He is responsible for the formulation and execution of policy direction of the Library for the growth of its collections and services to support the teaching, research and public service mandates of the University.
He is therefore expected to be demonstrably versatile in the use and deployment of ICT to drive the services of the Library.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate in mind must possess the following qualifications and experience:
A good honours Degree in any discipline is required but higher degrees will be an added advantage during evaluation;
The candidate must be a Chartered Librarian of Nigeria (CLN) and a member of other Information Science related professional associations;
Must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years cognate experience in tertiary institution's libraries, out of which 5 years must have been in the position of Deputy Librarian.
Evidence of continuing research and publication in reputable library and information science journals both in quality and quantum must be provided
Given the pivotal role of ICT in the management of modern libraries, the candidate is expected to possess the skills and experience needed to drive an ICT-driven library of world-class standard;
The candidate must possess the required managerial skills needed to lead the human resources made available as well as motivate staff to give their best
A high level of integrity and morality is required to meet the aspirations of a faith-based university that McPherson University is.
The candidate must not be more than 60 years old on the day of assumption of duty.
Conditions of Service
McPherson University offers conditions of service comparable with what obtains in similar private universities of its standing as well as those in Nigerian public university system and as may be determined by Council from time-to- time.
The University Librarian will hold the position for a single term of five years and no more.
