We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Instrument (PACO) Engineering Support Services Officer - Soku
Location: Rivers
Employment Type: Contract

Start Date: 1st January 2025
Schedule: 21/21 days duty cycle (12-hour shifts from 7 am to 7 pm)
Roles and Responsibilities
Troubleshooting of safety-critical equipment and control/safeguarding systems
Supporting the production staff in maintaining facilities
Assisting the maintenance team to sustain asset integrity/equipment availability
Complying with HSE practices and procedures
Assisting in ensuring technical integrity and safe operation of new process & utility systems
Identifying areas requiring change control and documenting change proposals
Providing specifications for critical spares or replacements with vendor details
Reviewing operating/maintenance procedures and proposing changes
Developing maintenance job routines (MJRs)/maintenance procedures and work packs
Identifying vendor support requirements for equipment maintenance
Providing technical support in repairing malfunctioning equipment
Liaising with OEMs for troubleshooting, spare parts, and field technical support
Supporting the maintenance team in troubleshooting exercises
Participating in root cause analysis, equipment failure investigations, and improvement initiatives
Participating in Management Facility Inspections (MFI) and HSE meetings.
Work Cycle:
Work location is swamp-field based (Soku, Rivers State), accessible via helicopter
Daily 12-hour routine (7 am to 7 pm) over a 14-day period
Periodic visits to Shell Industrial Area for training and official assignments may be required
Personnel may need to work extended hours as necessary
Port Harcourt-based candidate preferred.
Minimum Requirements
Possession of any of the following Qualifications:
OND or HND in Mechanical or Instrumentation & Controls Automation Engineering or any other relevant discipline. Certificate from the School of Basic Instrumentation will be an added advantage.
< 45 years
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in SPDC operation as a PACO technician
Skills:
Must possess competence No.1 plus at least one of Nos. 2–5:
General Instrumentation:
Ability to read drawings – PEFS, PSFS, C&E, FLD, loop diagrams, etc.
Sound knowledge of process instrumentation – major process parameters measured, types of sensors/instruments, principles of measurement, etc.
Sound knowledge of loop components – IS barriers, surge protectors, FISCO, I/O modules
Sound knowledge of communication protocols – HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, etc.
Sound knowledge of Fire & Gas devices – different types of detectors, principles of operation, Logic Solvers, Output Devices, etc.
Sound knowledge of operation and maintenance of valves – control valves, SDVs, BDVs, solenoid valves, actuators, positioners, position transmitters, air regulators, different types of manual valves, etc.
Skilled in calibration of switches and transmitters (pressure, differential pressure, level, temperature, flow, and absolute pressure)
Skilled in maintenance of valves (control valves, ESDVs, MOVs, manual valves), positioners, I/P converters
Skilled in use of handheld communication devices (Field Communicator, Interrogator, Fieldmate, NI Fieldbus Communicator, FB Tool, Oscilloscope, etc.)
Yokogawa DCS/SIS Engineering and Maintenance:
Installation and configuration of Foundation Fieldbus devices using the Engineering Workstation (EWS)
Engineering of systems using the SIS EWS
Installation and configuration of HART devices
Engineering of CentumVP software, including navigation and editing of function blocks
Use of Yokogawa AMS to manage field devices
Navigation, configuration, and logic modification of ProSafe safety systems using ProSafe-PLC 4-mation & ProSafe-RS Workbench
Ability to work on ProSafe SLS – Logic navigation using FLD, sound knowledge of SLS modules
Allen Bradley Systems Engineering and Maintenance:
Sound knowledge (including engineering and maintenance) of ControlLogix, RSLogix5000, RSLogix500
Installation and configuration of field devices
Engineering and maintenance of Allen Bradley PLCs using RSLogix5000, RSLogix500, RSFieldbus, and FactoryTalk software
Installation and configuration of PLCs, I/O modules, and other associated components
Programming techniques, program upload/download to PLCs
HMI engineering, PanelView, etc.
Connection and use of a laptop for PLC engineering
SMAR Systems Engineering and Maintenance:
Installation and configuration of Foundation Fieldbus devices
Engineering of System 302 software, including navigation, editing of function blocks
Installation and configuration of PLCs, I/O modules, and other associated components
Programming techniques, program upload/download to PLCs
System302 HMI engineering, ProcessView, etc.
Connection and use of a laptop for PLC engineering
DeltaV DCS Engineering and Maintenance:
Installation and configuration of Foundation Fieldbus devices using EWS
Engineering of DeltaV software, including navigation and editing of function blocks
Installation and configuration of DCS controllers and I/O modules
HMI graphics modification
Soft Skills:
