Role Overview
The Head of Risk and Internal Audit will play a critical role in safeguarding the financial and operational integrity of the Microfinance Bank. This individual will lead the development and implementation of robust risk management frameworks and oversee the internal audit function to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices. This role requires a highly analytical and ethical professional capable of identifying risks, assessing controls, and recommending improvements to enhance the bank's operational and financial stability.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework.
Identify, assess, and monitor financial, operational, credit, and regulatory risks.
Establish and oversee risk limits, policies, and procedures in alignment with the bank’s strategic objectives.
Provide regular risk assessment reports to the Board of Directors and Managing Director, highlighting key risk exposures and mitigation plans.
Ensure the effective management of credit risk, including loan portfolio monitoring and analysis.
Collaborate with other departments to embed risk management practices across the organization.
Internal Audit:
Plan, execute, and oversee internal audit activities to evaluate the effectiveness of controls, processes, and systems.
Conduct periodic audits of financial, operational, and compliance functions to ensure adherence to policies and regulations.
Identify control deficiencies and recommend actionable solutions to address them.
Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and report progress to the Board of Directors.
Prepare and present audit reports with findings and recommendations to senior management and the Board.
Compliance and Governance:
Ensure the bank’s operations comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Monitor changes in regulations and update risk and audit frameworks accordingly.
Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling their governance and oversight responsibilities.
Leadership and Strategy:
Build and lead a high-performing risk and audit team, fostering a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.
Provide training and development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Contribute to the development of the bank’s strategic plan by providing insights on risk and control considerations.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CISA, CRMA) is an advantage.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in risk management and internal audit within the banking or financial services sector, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of microfinance banking operations, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
Demonstrated experience in credit risk management and loan portfolio analysis.
Proven track record of implementing effective risk and audit frameworks.

Proficiency in risk management and audit tools, as well as financial analysis software.
