Job Description
Bincike International with funding from the World Bank's multi-crisis recovery project is seeking for Legal Advisor who will play a crucial role in supporting a sensitization program aimed at reducing stigmatization among women, youth, and men impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency.
This position involves providing legal expertise, guidance, and support to ensure that the rights of affected individuals are upheld while fostering an inclusive environment that encourages understanding and empathy.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Framework Analysis:
Analyse national and international laws related to human rights, discrimination, and stigmatization.
Identify legal protections available for individuals affected by Boko Haram violence.
Advisory Support:
Provide expert legal advice to program staff on issues related to stigma reduction and community engagement.
Assist in developing policies that promote inclusivity and safeguard the rights of marginalized populations.
Capacity Building:
Conduct training sessions for community leaders, stakeholders, and program participants on legal rights related to discrimination and the importance of reducing stigma.
Empower community members with knowledge about their rights through workshops or informational sessions.
Community Engagement:
Collaborate with local organizations to facilitate discussions around stigmatization issues affecting impacted individuals.
Promote initiatives that foster dialogue between different community groups (e.g., women’s associations, and youth clubs).
Create toolkits for local advocates on how to address cases of discrimination or abuse effectively.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
Contribute to monitoring activities assessing the impact of sensitization efforts on reducing stigma within communities.
Prepare reports detailing progress made towards achieving program objectives regarding legal awareness and stigma reduction.
Advocacy Efforts:
Participate in advocacy campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the effects of stigmatization linked to Boko Haram experiences.
Engage with policymakers at both local and national levels advocating for inclusive policies addressing stigma-related issues.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution; admission to practice law is preferred but not required.
Minimum 3 years of experience working as a legal advisor or in a relevant role focusing on human rights or social justice issues.
Strong understanding of Nigeria's socio-political context concerning insurgency impacts; familiarity with Adamawa State's dynamics is an asset.
Proven ability in capacity building through training programs targeting diverse audiences including vulnerable groups such as women and youth affected by conflict-related trauma.
Excellent communication skills (verbal & written), with proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is desirable but not mandatory.
Strong analytical skills combined with a compassionate approach toward sensitive social issues.
