African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the commencement of its African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) project in Abuja, Nigeria. It will provide world-class care to both low and high-income patient groups across the continent.The AMCE in Partnership with King's College Hospital London will be located in Abuja, which is a hub for travel in Nigeria and West Africa, enabling it to attract patients across the region.
The African Medical Centre of Excellence will be implemented in four phases over a six-year period, starting with a 170-bed specialist hospital before expanding to a 500-bed facility. The centre will have the potential to provide services to over 200,000 patients in Nigeria and a further 150,000 patients from neighbouring West African countries within its first five years of operation.

Job Summary
The Specialist Nurse for the Haematology Ward plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care within the Oncology and Haematology Department.
This position requires a dedicated professional with extensive knowledge in haematology nursing and a commitment to patient-centered care. The Specialist Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with haematological conditions, including but not limited to leukaemia, lymphoma, and other blood disorders.
The primary objective of this role is to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care throughout their treatment journey. This involves collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to develop individualised care plans that address both the physical and emotional needs of patients.
The Specialist Nurse will also act as an educator for patients and their families, providing essential information about treatment options, potential side effects, and self-management strategies.
In addition to direct patient care, the Specialist Nurse will engage in quality improvement initiatives within the department. This includes participating in clinical audits, contributing to research projects, and implementing evidence-based practices to enhance patient outcomes. The role requires strong leadership skills as the Specialist Nurse will mentor junior nursing staff and contribute to their professional development.

Key Responsibilities
The Specialist Nurse - Haematology Ward will undertake a variety of responsibilities that are essential for ensuring optimal patient care:
Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with haematological conditions, including physical examinations and health history evaluations.
Care Planning: Develop individualised care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team that address the specific needs of each patient.
Treatment Administration: Administer chemotherapy and other treatments as prescribed while monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, side effects management, and lifestyle modifications.
Supportive Care: Offer emotional support and counselling to patients dealing with the psychological impacts of their diagnosis and treatment.
Collaboration: Work closely with oncologists and other specialists to coordinate care and ensure all aspects of a patient's health are addressed.

Line Management and Professional Responsibilities:
Report directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager of the Oncology and Haematology Department.
Supervise junior nurses within the Haematology Ward.
Conduct performance evaluations for nursing staff under supervision.
Provide guidance on clinical practices within the team.
Facilitate training sessions for new staff members.
Address performance issues through appropriate channels.
Support staff development through mentorship programs.
Ensuring clinical practice is based on validated research, and participating in quality assessment, research and clinical audits ·

Organisational Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures related to patient safety.

Confidentiality:
The post holder must be aware that Confidential Information and data to which the post holder will have knowledge and access to in the course of their employment with the AMCE is to be kept confidential, and this confidentiality is a condition of employment.
The duty to maintain confidentiality continues even when the post holder is no longer employed.
